Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

Stone was my favorite DT that cycle, but I’d rather take the Syracuse kid if we are being honest. He’d probably be cheaper too. BUT, I wouldn’t be opposed to this either, for the right price. We need all the big depth we can attain.
We are saving $ at WR because the San Jose kid just wants some chipotle gift cards

I’d feel a little better about spending a Friday night watching a random high school football game just to see him commit to Oklahoma if we could get him now.

I go with stone player with higher upside even tho Syracuse guy would be great fit too

So if I’m not mistaken, Venables is considered some dt guru correct?
But yet he’s letting his 5 star walk.
Not smart imo to pick him up. It’s not like OU ain’t paying. So he’s either leaving cause he ain’t good enough or not worth the headache.

Are you familiar with the name Bear Alexander?

“Sources indicated to SoonerScoop on Friday night that Stone took a pay cut in his NIL compensation following his freshman season, in which he played only 94 snaps for the Sooners. This did not go over well with Stone and ultimately led to him putting his name in the portal.”

Again, I’d prefer the SU kid 10/10 because he is the safer option IMO but you still take this kid 24/7/365 and bet on the talent. He was a true FR, roll the dice here and in 2026 you *MAY* have something special with him and Scott. **** I wish we’d take them both but I know that isn’t happening.

Not that it means 💩, but I say sign ‘em both. Adding Stone and Watson would definitely solve the depth issue from a numbers perspective.

Also increases the chances of having 1-2 of those kind of cats in a couple years(hopefully less) that we’re wishing on all of the stars would hop in the portal right now. I’m not a mathematician, but five lottery tickets would present a greater chance of winning than three, right?

I don’t wanna hear **** about the cost, make it happen. If any program occupying the space that we’re DYING to return to were faced with the same dilemma, they’d get it done. Y’all have given Mario everything he’s asked for thus far. Is this where the Mas Brothers, Soffers, and those of their ilk draw the line or is Mario not imploring for their aid towards getting us out of the Sahara?

If it’s the latter, they oughta tie Mario to the goalpost at the Hard Rock, and let us pay $100 to line up to slap the **** outta him. We’d raise enough NIL bread to sign Chris Jones. If it’s neither, then I don’t know what to say.

And news flash for y’all out there in CISland holding your breath for that preseason AA and/or consensus Day 1 grade dude to hop in the portal. You’re more likely to be found passed out and holding your nuts when the portal closes. Wish for Peter Woods in one hand and **** in the other, and tell me what you get first.

Sign them both, have some faith in Coach Lewis, grow some nuts and let the chips fall where they may. If coach is the success that we all hope he’ll be, that room could be a strength down the line…

Just read some Oklahoma takes on it where they were saying he looked like their best d tackle in the spring
So they wanted him to take a pay cut to play for a team that was a joke last year and look just as bleak this year and they gave Mateer all that money to boot. No wonder he hit the portal.

Hard to gauge any news from Norman. Never know how a school is trying to spin it.
I just don’t see that coach letting a top quality d tackle walk.

Favorite DT that cycle & until Scott committed at the last hour to save that class, him choosing Oklahoma made me feel like we were capped & would never be able to reach that upper room of recruiting.

But this feels like he's just holding Oklahoma's feet to the fire so they pony up & he can stay where he wants to be. Using us to up the bag.

It worked once why not try it again
