Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

3,256 kids into the portal in two weeks, and that's not counting the guys like Markeith Williams who were already in there. Echevarria noted in his ESPN interview how damaging this is to a huge number of student athletes who will not have a roster spot anywhere.

I'm happy for the top guys like Mensah and WIlson, they deserve to earn what the market is willing to pay them. But I'm saddened for all those kids who get ground out through this process. There's got to be a balance somewhere.

This system is creating a generation of athletes who opt out when they dont get what they want, with playing time or money.

No one wants to compete or earn it. They want instant gratification. The days of a recruit developing 2-3-4 years is assuredly over. These kids portal out if they dont get what they want in year 2.

They'll learn to not jump out there with 70 overall rating won't they.

I agree somewhat but haven’t scholarships always essentially been 1 year contracts anyway? Teams can process kids at any point and in turn kids can decide they want to leave whenever as well, full knowing their roster spot might be filled. Not sure we should get onboard with holding roster spots for kids who want to shop themselves or even worse, way overvalue themselves (or their agents do).

On the map the state is shaped like a boot. Thts why those of us who live there-from there call it that.

dmitch! Hope you been doing well. Yeah, that makes sense. I love learning stuff like this.

I hope our staff continues to recruit players from The Boot (on topic)....

So I did a Google search, and stumbled upon this pic:

So coaches could go through spring practices knowing who there team was going to be the following year.
I get the sentiment. The trouble is that the CFB and college calendars are so jacked up, it’s almost impossible for it all to work out cleanly.

They need to eliminate championship games, as fun as they are. Everything is in service of the CFP.

They also need to get over the New Year’s Day and NYE traditions. The gaps between games make no sense anymore, and they decided long ago that tradition doesn’t matter in the sport.

The cadence of games has been absurd (Saturday, Thursday, Monday). The fact that Ohio State and IU and most bye teams had almost a month between games is absurd.

There needs to be a total overhaul to the end of the season, with all factors considered. The Frankenstein’s monster we have now gets less practical every year.

Can someone explain the reasoning behind eliminating the Spring transfer portal?
Coaches HATED it, they were sooooo paranoid they stopped holding spring games because teams would watch for talented players and tell them get in portal. Even though everyone made big deal 2nd portal was always less than the first one.

All I know we wouldnt be here without it for sure, after spring, Hetherman was like yea this not gonna work, We got Keionte, Jakobe, Toure, and I think Marion all in 2nd portal. Completely changed our defense for sure.

If you weren't ushered out and you gave up a $100k/year scholarship to chase a dream (and $) you may have screwed up.
