There's a lot to negatively say about Golden. Probably the worse coach to ever come through Miami. But compare and contrast his last year with Randy's in terms of recruiting, and yeah......your post says it all. At least Golden didn't totally suck at his job. Richt just needs to fill out the class with some DTs and a couple other players. As opposed to having to build from scratch with less than 2 months to go.

Oh no, Golden is the definition of sucking at his job, he was just a slightly better recruiter than Randy

Yep. That's what I just said.

If Golden would have finished the season they would have lost a few more games and half that list would have decommited by now. We owe this class to Coach Scott.

I agree with this. Shannon's staff practically gave up on recruiting. UM only had a handful of recruits in December. If I recall, AG even had to scramble just to find a punter or place kicker or maybe both. There was a dearth of CBs on the roster and commit list.

AG at least leaves behind a decent core commit list.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this post correctly or not, so my opinion here may be off base. But Miami has NEVER, had an issue recruiting skill players. I mean, we could easily walk around campus and find some random student who was fast enough to play college ball. IMO, where the previous staffs went wrong is line recruiting, both offensive and defensive. Not to mention the HUGE drop off of elite speed on the entire defensive side of the ball. We just haven't been recruiting or closing the deal on "Miami type" defensive players in the past 7 years or so.

On offense, Shannon failed at developing QBs or even recruiting elite skill at that position. Golden seemed to want to do what ever he felt works and eats the clock. The thing I've always loved about Miami Football is that we specialized in certain things EXTREAMLY well. We had burners at WR, We had smart QBs, we had elite vision RBs with speed, we recruited DBs that were big enough to play safety, but fast enough to be CBs, and vise versa with safeties. Our LBs were as big as LBs, bust as fast as safeties. No other school could really match what we were doing, and we've gotten away from that.

So most of us have a sense that this recruiting class wasn't as good as this one and such, but overall, the classes fit what each coach felt fit their style of play. But neither of the past two staffs recruited "Miami style" players.

Again, just my opinion. * Shrugs*

Shannon had no targets even on the board. I remember when golden came he had to research s FL players to offer because Shannon had no organization.

Golden can't get elite dt s because no great dt wants to play patty cake for dorito.

we had commits because kids were waiting to see who was replacing golden. everyone knew he was a goner.

Golden never seemed to have too hard a problem getting high level recruits to commit. His problem was being able to keep them on NSD. Golden / Miami was being used by these kids, something I hope Mark Richt will not allow.

We all agree Golden was a disaster of a coach. But he walked into a far worse situation than what Richt is coming into. At QB, he had Jacory, Snickers, and Spencer Freaking Whipple. That's all. Richt gets Kaaya, Rosier, Sherriefs, and Vinny Jr. with Jack (and maybe Eason) on the way.

With Richt a Miami offer will hold significance now. I felt like our offers were viewed like an UCF or FIU offer.
