Pretty strong rumor that James would have fired Golden after last season and Shalala and Miller vetoed it. No AD wants to fire a coach mid season. Good thing he did, because at 8-4, Golden would still be here unless he left for Rutgers.

Golden would have lost the games to Duke and Pitt, and heck, maybe even Virginia, so we'd be 6-6 or 5-7.

This is very true. Duke for sure, Pitt most likely- being the last game of the season, at Pitt, after thanksgivingng, knowing Golden is a goner. Yup a loss.

It amazes me this year we beat all coastal teams but a decent UNC team. I don't recall the last time that's honestly happened. Always multiple losses with Va Tech Duke, UVA, Pitt mixed in.
