And Spring Football Practice starts this week.
I thought the team played pretty decent defense. Far from perfect, but it wasn’t some **** effort. Purdue just shot the ******* lights out. Sometimes there’s nothing you can do about it.
This season was found money. Iowa State is currently bending Kentucky over. Houston systematically dismantled TAMU last night. Remains to be seen what UCONN does to UCLA tonight. But we hung in with the preseason #1 team today. Better than the other 2 seed opponents so far.
Jai flipped an entire roster in one offseason. Clearly he can identify talent. Only a few times this year I can look to a game and say he was out coached. Nothing substantial even in those few games. I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say he could have this team in final four contention in another year or two. This year was just massively ahead of what I anticipated from them.
Honestly, i'm good with him not coming back, unless his NIL spend is **** near zero. Him and Altuntas should be guys that if they cost ANYTHING, you move on because they aren't worth spending NIL dollars on.We could have really used a true stretch 4 to keep teams honest. Timo never filled that role and I’d guess he won’t be back next year
I was worried he’d shrink in tight moments against good teams. Games like today we just ran into a guy with more bullets. It happens. We had what 12 guys who’d never played together before this year? Purdue is an experienced and consistent roster. To be down 4 under 2 is a good sign imo. If we had a guy like Wong on the roster we probably win today.Lots of programs taking notice of Lucas and his assistants. But this is a good problem to have and as long as the school is committed to supporting the program, we will be fine.
Kudos to Lucas, his coaches and the team.
Also, kudos to the folks involved in the hiring process, especially hiring a rookie HC who had many people concerned.
I think it’s hard to rationalize how hard it is to get good shooting in the portal. Every big school is going pay for that. Jai had nothing to sell and it’s hard to convince a kid to come to a complete overhaul as opposed to the top schools. If anyone is complaining about the season they just had, they don’t know basketball and it’s really that simple.
What Lucas did in 1 season is historic, literally, as we just tied the record for most wins year over year.
We had a really good team, but at this point in the season we are playing the top teams in the country and we lack a little bit of outside shooting to beat these top teams. We saw that issue in almost every loss. But this program is in good hands with Lucas.
We have 2 very good freshman to build off of in Henderson and Allen. Allen maybe one of the fastest players in college basketball (next to the PG from High Point), and Henderson is one of the strongest. With that and the incoming freshman this will be a fun ride.
And most importantly Lucas knows how to put together a roster, and it’s not just about money. I will 100% guarantee that UNC and UK have much bigger NIL budgets than UM, but neither coach was able to put together a cohesive roster. UK basically had no PG all season. And UNC was completely reliant on a freshman.
This season was so much fun and it makes us just want more. I’m ready for next season already.
1000% agree. Lucas has some proven product to sell. And he’s clearly a good recruiter when you consider that Donaldson came from Michigan and Malik from IU.I think it’s hard to rationalize how hard it is to get good shooting in the portal. Every big school is going pay for that. Jai had nothing to sell and it’s hard to convince a kid to come to a complete overhaul as opposed to the top schools.
Now, he can sell something. I’d imagine shooting improves dramatically next season. Jai coached under Cal. I have an extremely hard time believing he doesn’t absolutely prioritize scoring guards. Just couldn’t get one under the circumstances this season. Again, I think that’ll change in a big way next year.
