Dazed WorshamBruh I legit forgot Daz Worsham was on this team
And the best way to earn that money back is to go out there and Ball so that his next contract can be a Big one!!No guarantee either way. Might be fun a couple years from now, but he’s missing out on a lot of guaranteed cash
It was only memorable because Geoff was playing because Vinny's drove a moped like Evil Knievel at Caesar's Palace. You're so screwed up about Geoff Torretta. He WAS higher than third string. He was the backup to Vinny in 1986. If you remember--which you apparently don't--Geoff transferred to Miami as a junior after playing at Diablo Valley C.C. in California. Jimmy Johnson was desperate for an experienced backup. Kyle Vandewende had thrown in the towel after losing his apparent starting job succeeding Jim Kellyand Marc Richt in '83, and left. Vinny was Bernie Kosar's backup for the '83 and '84 seasons. When Bernie left, Vinny inherited the starting job in '85, and all we had were true freshmen Steve Walsh and Bill Turkowski. Neither of these two touted freshmen were ready to be the backup.
Jimmy Johnson found Geoff Torretta, who was more experienced at the college level and recruited him as a juco transfer in 1985. When he was signed, but before he arrived on campus, Johnson spoke publicly about Geoff and said that he expected Geoff to be Vinny's backup when he arrived. He did serve as Vinny's backup in '85 and '86 and played a major role for our '86 team, which was one of the best in college history and should have been the NC for '86 except Vinny fell apart mentally in the Fiesta Bowl against PSU. (Some suggested after the game that we would have won the NC had Torretta played QB for us!)
One of the most important games in UM history came on Thanksgiving Night in 1986. Vinny had fallen off his motor scooter and suffered minor abrasions, but was too banged up to play. Geoff started that Thanksgiving Night nationally-televised game and beat East Carolina. That preserved what had been a perfect season up until that point.
Incidentally, I just noticed that the wikipedia article on Steve Walsh erroneously describes Steve as Vinny's backup that year. He was not. If you consider the backup the next guy to come in to play, the no.2, that was definitely Geoff. He was never third string in the two years he was at UM.
We went through some rough years in terms of QB depth after Kosar and Vandewende left. One year, I can't remember which one, we were so thin that we brought back a punter, Kirk Sandifer, to be our third string QB. He had already left the program but he had a year of eligibility left. That's how desperate we were.
Turkowski never worked out. He tried being a pitcher for Ron Fraser. He eventually transferred back home to Pitt where he finished his career as a TE.
So, no. Geoff was never third string. He was always second string. And that clutch Thanksgiving Night victory in '86 is one of the more memorable games in UM history.
Any day now... We're waiting on your assessmentHe did, but he limped off the field after a play early in the first.
Still “Nothing will change”???Any day now... We're waiting on your assessment
Who tf is Garcia’s HB on that first drive?
I was doubtful about any of the TF WR’s playing this year because I thought the coaches would just stick with Pope & Wiggz...
But after today when they evaluate the game film, idk how they can come away with much confidence in them.
Pope showed he can be serviceable at times, but IMO Wiggz stock dropped even further down than it was before after today. Again, I get that Spring games aren’t the be all end all, but man idk how Coach Likens can continually watch this kid get physically manhandled & drop balls & keep playing him.
Mello is without doubt a big time WR, I can’t wait till he gets his shot.
?Still “Nothing will change”???
Wow that's really good news....so he's Kayaa with a canon and swag? I'll take itYeah he was very impressive.
He didn’t really have to run because there’s no contact on the QB, but he looked good in the pocket, he has a very quick trigger & slings it. He did get “sacked” (it was just a two-hand touch) by Frierson on a 3rd down Blitz & had maybe one or two errant throws, he sometimes will hold onto the ball looking for the big play which Lashlee got on him pretty hard for, but other than that he was really good.
He’s got a good arm, but more than just raw arm talent, he’s got a sh*t ton of confidence, he will fit the ball into tight windows & make difficult second level throws without hesitation.
**** dudes walking on water? He's a winner & very accurate. He looked like Jesus Christ when the pocket collapsed. That's when he was at his best.
During most of spring LCE has been adamant that he didn’t feel anything would change in the fall related to certain players starting/playing. So I was wondering if that has changed in his mind.
Agreed with 1,2 4 & 5 but was really hoping to get your take on Pope and Wiggins.I'll tell you what I took from the scrimmage.
1) We have a very good problem at QB. Will eventually be a tough choice but both of these kids have live arms. Gun to my head I like Garcia more but it's close.
2) Thank God for Rambo. Our WR depth chart would probably qualify as the worst we've had in the history of the program if it wasn't for him. He's going to catch a ton of passes this year and help his draft stock tremendously.
3) Get Pope and Wiggins all the way the F out of my face. Neither of these guys are Miami caliber receivers. I'm not sure they are good enough to be on any ACC roster.
4) Give #5 a chance. I saw more from Smith on those two TD's than I've seen on the aggregate from both of the guys I mentioned above during their entire careers here. This kid needs to play.
5) I'm cautiously optimistic on the O-line
6) Get Pope and Wiggins all the way the F out of my face
Violation. Prove itThat throw by Matocha was almost as much a dime as his sister!
Told you.
If he had a limp at this point it would be very, very bad. You can jog on treadmill at 4 months.I haven't read through all 46 pages but am I the only one who noticed that it barely looked like D'Eriq even had a limp 4 months after ACL surgery? The guy just continues to amaze in all aspects.
