Live Stream for Spring Game

I might catch some backlash for saying this, but IMO Wiggins is worse...

Because he’s 6’3 195lbs runs a 4.4 & is soft AF with bad hands.

To me, Pope issues are mental in terms of maintaining focus & Wiggz issues are lack of mental & physical toughness.

They’re both below average though lol.
This is exactly what I was thinking watching this spring game. Wiggins is a one trick pony. He’s good to get open deep a couple times a game and the occasional slant, but that’s really it. And the odds of him catching it are less than 25%. He does nothing after the catch and he doesn’t catch congested balls at all. How can you be that big and fast, and play so soft and weak. It actually ****es me off to watch. I wish KWashington would’ve lit his *** up instead of the other WR.

I said it before with Pope. He’s so frustrating because he drops wide open passes, but he does actually get open. He had some nice plays today and if he catches that one pass he would have had a great day. I don’t know if he has small hands or what, but he’s not a hand catcher. He needs to cradle the ball to catch it consistently, which makes 50/50 balls to him completely pointless. I think slants, option routes, short crossers, bubbles, hooks and the occasional double move are the routes that best suit his skill set, catching ability and lack of physicality.
At this point, it’s not even debatable. Redding, Keyshawn and even Worsham should be ahead of Wiggins. Pope should be behind Restropo. Harley and Rambo are 1a/1b with X nipping at their heels. Outside of Pope and Wiggins, I actually feel really good about the WR group especially with the freshman coming in next month.

Edit: and I’ll add that Keyshawn looks like he’ll be in the top group of WR and maybe the number one at some point this season. Rambo, Harley, Keyshawn and X will be the top 4. Pope is gonna be 5. Hopefully after that it’s Redding, Worsham, a freshman or two, M Few and then Wiggins.

I feel like we have to come away from that spring game pretty happy... the 2 qbs looked impressive our ab room has to be one of the better ones.. i tHought the oline looked good aside from a few penalties. Rambo and the young guys def upgraded wr. Db looks upgraded as well. Think we need help on the DE still

Our dline finna eat VS fspoo! First play was a sack. And wtf they got on they helmets lmao
It's what they put on mentally challenged children to keep them from banging their heads on the wall, floor, doors, etc.

Garcia is going to have a lot of posters that wasn’t high on him during his recruitment eating crow. I like TVD but Jake just seems to have it. The accuracy down the field and poise/movement in the pocket was probably what impressed me most. Wasn’t expecting that for a kid that should still be in high school.

A lot to like out there today on both sides of the ball and ST. Kicking game is in great hands with Andy. Crazy how far we’ve came at that position in less than 2 years.

I’m laughing at anybody who didn’t want him on the team last year. He’s the best qb we’ve recruited in a very long time. TVD is also very good.

You're so screwed up about Geoff Torretta. He WAS higher than third string. He was the backup to Vinny in 1986. If you remember--which you apparently don't--Geoff transferred to Miami as a junior after playing at Diablo Valley C.C. in California. Jimmy Johnson was desperate for an experienced backup. Kyle Vandewende had thrown in the towel after losing his apparent starting job succeeding Jim Kellyand Marc Richt in '83, and left. Vinny was Bernie Kosar's backup for the '83 and '84 seasons. When Bernie left, Vinny inherited the starting job in '85, and all we had were true freshmen Steve Walsh and Bill Turkowski. Neither of these two touted freshmen were ready to be the backup.

Jimmy Johnson found Geoff Torretta, who was more experienced at the college level and recruited him as a juco transfer in 1985. When he was signed, but before he arrived on campus, Johnson spoke publicly about Geoff and said that he expected Geoff to be Vinny's backup when he arrived. He did serve as Vinny's backup in '85 and '86 and played a major role for our '86 team, which was one of the best in college history and should have been the NC for '86 except Vinny fell apart mentally in the Fiesta Bowl against PSU. (Some suggested after the game that we would have won the NC had Torretta played QB for us!)

One of the most important games in UM history came on Thanksgiving Night in 1986. Vinny had fallen off his motor scooter and suffered minor abrasions, but was too banged up to play. Geoff started that Thanksgiving Night nationally-televised game and beat East Carolina. That preserved what had been a perfect season up until that point.

Incidentally, I just noticed that the wikipedia article on Steve Walsh erroneously describes Steve as Vinny's backup that year. He was not. If you consider the backup the next guy to come in to play, the no.2, that was definitely Geoff. He was never third string in the two years he was at UM.

We went through some rough years in terms of QB depth after Kosar and Vandewende left. One year, I can't remember which one, we were so thin that we brought back a punter, Kirk Sandifer, to be our third string QB. He had already left the program but he had a year of eligibility left. That's how desperate we were.

Turkowski never worked out. He tried being a pitcher for Ron Fraser. He eventually transferred back home to Pitt where he finished his career as a TE.

So, no. Geoff was never third string. He was always second string. And that clutch Thanksgiving Night victory in '86 is one of the more memorable games in UM history.

****, you really told me. lol

That's my mistake if my history is wrong. I spent fall of 84 and a good part of 1985 floating around the Pacific & Indian oceans working on the fight deck of an aircraft carrier. So yeah, there was a gap in how I followed the Canes. I did get back to San Diego a couple weeks before the '85 game at Oklahoma. That's the game where Rodney Peete got his leg broken.

I do remember Geoff Torretta getting the start on Senior day, in 86. I was at that game.

Okay, I was kidding about Rodney Peete. It was Troy Aikman but I just wanted to see if I could get you furiously typing again. lol (all in good fun)
