Agree with OP. First sign of trouble and the quacks are out in full force. MFers are on suicide watch after losing a game as a road underdog. Perspective!

He went 8-3 because the schollie loss (11) wasn't until the conclusion of 95....then (9) more in 96....the 95 team had some good carry overs from Erickson...but for only a yr. Once 96 and 97 rolled along...we were already down 20 schollies with absolutely No depth....could barely hold practice in 97.....BUT, look at his 97 through 2000 recruiting classes, and the rest is History.

His 1-3 start at Miami during his first year at Miami had nothing to do with sanctions. If I'm not mistaken sanctions weren't announced until November 1995, which was towards the end of the 95 season. You can blame the 5-6 season on the scholarship cuts, but not the first year.

I said, the 11 schollies came at the conclusion of 95...read it again....put the blame on Erickson (where it belongs) running outta Hecht like a B*tch, and leaving the program in peril. 8-3 wasn't a terrible record. Erickson with a must better team in 94 only was two games better. (Would've been only one...but Butch forfeited the Bwl game) Ericksons garbage *** recruiting from 92 to 94 put Butch in even a bigger hole.

True he started 1-3; however, he finished the season on a 7-game win streak and ranked 20th in the Country. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Mario won't be finishing the year on a 7-game win streak.

Relax dude! I'm not passing any blame. You asked for perspective. I gave it to you. Butch started 1-3 out of the gate here at Miami. Mario is 2-2. I'm sure there were morons back in '95 asking for Butch's head the same way there are morons now asking for Mario's.

Probably not, but time will tell. I wonder how that 95 roster compares to the 2022 Canes roster?

The ACC Coastal sucks so bad that if there were a team like ours looking to go on a winning streak this is the conference AND division to do it in. The coastal is laughably bad--probably worse than any I've seen in recent memory. The Atlantic is carrying this conference right now.

* NO support from the administration
* NO Billionaire Booster
* A up and coming LBer murdered on campus no less
* TERRIBLE public perception
* SI calling for the dismantling of the program.
* NO TV or bowl for a yr

Yes, it's a huge difference when comparing Butch's entire tenure (5 years) here with Mario's first 4 games. After 4 games Butch was 1-3 and Mario is 2-2. Perspective.
