Only because I am bored and I like numbers. Here is my scenario for number of openings we will have:
11 - Currently under the 85 limit by that number
12 - Number of Seniors
1 - Hunter Knighton being announced as not being renewed
1 - With Kayaa staying and 2 QB's coming in, one of Rosier or Sheriffs is gone
2 - Number of Juniors that will leave. My guess is Yearby and Njoku.
3 - There is always attrition. I never like saying a guy is not worth his scholarship because you never know what he brings to the scout team or locker room. But these three would be my guess (Gray, McCray, and Langham)

That puts the total number at 30 openings. So we need 5 early enrollees. According to Pete we can easily get that number in January.

How many commits do we have right now? 20? Edit - just checked, it's 20.

Here is my wild guess on how the class shakes out with the remaining ten spots -

RB - 1
WR - 2
OL- 3
CB - 3
S - 1

sound good I think we go after juco or grad transfer LB, CB and maybe a WR

I do not think we sign 30 even if we could theoretically take 30. I could see a class of 26-27. One problem with signing 30 is it does get us a little out of balance. Now having said that, it sure would be nice to take 30 bonafide Miami guys and let some of those frosh play special teams. And then the following year if 3-4 of them transfer we can replace them again! I do think 26-27 will be the max.

Dudes are always leaving or getting kicked out, so I think we can take the full 30 as long as we stay balanced by position. If we can find them (big if) I think we should take an extra DB/WR or 2 at this point. Basically, I don't ever recall a situation where we had to tell some kid we wanted no because of who we already had. Take everybody and sort next year out next year.

my guess some of the OL who get beat out will be leaving . We have a few who don't belong here

Yeah, we definitely won't take 30 in this class, because even though it's absolutely forbidden to mention anything concerning 2018 when it comes to recruiting, but the staff won't max this class out because they have to look at the scholly count for the following year.

But, a class of 25-27 is about perfect for what we're looking for... I also think we'll have about 11-13 EE's depending on who we get between now & Jan 1.

I feel like the staff has left a lot of spots open for the final months because they're both waiting for a few top recruits & also seeing how other prospects pan out in other classes; meaning, there may be some kids who were takes for other teams that end up getting dropped by February & we can swoop in and maybe get a late steal.

I agree. Do not take number just to have numbers. Quality over quantity. But we need to get past these scout team numbers that have plagued us all year.

I'm sick of hearing our HCs bytch and moan about numbers over the years and then voluntarily sanction themselves by not signing enough guys.

This should be Rick's natural recruiting bump class. He should work this **** to THE ABSOLUTE MAX. Get rid of dead weight from the roster and sign 30-35 new players.

If he doesn't sign enough to max out, then I don't want to hear a fcking peep out of his mouth about not having enough guys for scout team or any of that stupid ****.

You're absolutely correct Chise...

But you know what would happen if we signed that many? A lot of the tail end prospects would be ripped apart by guys on here "as not Miami caliber" & "not deserving of a scholly"...

If we took 30-35, those last 5-10 guys wouldn't be a bunch of 4-stars, it would be a bunch of low rated 3-stars who weren't takes for the entire season until the 25th hour.

And then the staff would be highly criticized for making Folden type signings.

I have no privileged knowledge, but I know of at least seven guys out there that I believe we wouldn't decline their commitments. If we don't drop anyone we currently have, that would leave us with 27. On top of that, we are hearing about the staff recruiting guys they don't want everyone to know about yet, so that's, let's say, another two. That puts us at 29.

So, in my mind, the way the staff is playing it is that if we land on all our top guys we will max out the class at around 30, but if we don't land on those guys it will be a smaller class in the low to mid twenties. Just my opinion.

Btw, the seven guys are -

McFarland
Holloman
Smith
Slaton
Edwards
Henderson
McKitty

Who knows, maybe if we take all these guys, we would end up dropping some of our current commits. It's pure speculation on my part, but I do currently see a path to 30 quality players right now. Which I think easily gives us a top ten potentially top five class, which is where I think we need to be consistently.

He's had a year to locate and woo Miami caliber recruits. No more excuses. I don't want to hear any **** about having to sign busters. If he signs busters then he should be lampooned. And if he can't find 30+ high-end recruits in what should be his natural recruiting bump year while sitting in the middle of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the world, then he failed.

How many EE's are there this year? We can enroll 25 plus the EE number.

So this class probably could easily be 30+ ,but it's not happening we can barely keep the players we have committed.

I'm all for building depth but I don't want to see us sign guys just to sign them. I'm down for stacking our chips to bet on a 10 win season next year and cashing in on over signing in 2018.

If the dude can't help us next year then it doesn't matter why take him if you think there's better prospects that are realistic next year

Min 26 and that would like end up causing us to play close to 80. Give me 28 and play at 82-84 depending on grad transfers or late additions.

Yearby or Edwards can hit the road but anyone thinking that they are NFL ready isn't getting good advice.

EEs- we can sign as many as we want (the full class) but only can count around 3-7 toward 2016. You have to back into the numbers by looking at past EEs and overall numbers. A true insider may be able to find out from someone how many '16 EE kids counted toward '15.

Add some olinemen to that number of roster management options: Brendan Loftus, Hayden Mahoney , and Jahair Jones are all eligible to be asked to transfer. On the Dline Ryan Fines is looking like the odd man out and hopefully Courtel Jenkins get things figured out because the boy can play. Hopefully the light goes on for Barr Milo this spring.

I am thinking Miami signs 32+ in the 2017 class.
