Let's REALLY talk Butch Davis

I want butch too, but UNC beat us in 2004, when we were a top 10 team.

OP Im just sayin I could put forth a few paragraphs on Al Golden and make it sound just as good... Your porst was full of excuses for Butch and it was a failure and made me not want Butch even more..... When your trying to sell someone dont gimme the excuses...it just reminds me of Golden

[MENTION=1396]blackvern[/MENTION]: what excuses? are you confusing facts from excuses? here's the thing, and i know you don't like Butch, and you don't have to, but for stop knocking a guy who took over a horrid football team. UNC ain't FSU, VT, Miami, Michigan, OSU, or USCw...the aforementioned schools are football schools. UNC is all in all a b-ball school and it showed by the last coach who was there.

What Golden did here was take 4-5 star talent and make them look like 1-2 stars. What Butch did was take 1-2 star talents and made them look like 3-4 stars and when he finally got a hold of some 4-5 talent players, the party was over for him. No doubt in my mind if Butch had 5 years at UNC with his last recruiting class and the momentum they were building, they would've been in BCS consideration.

In his first year he went 4-8 but he only lost games by 8 points not 16 like the previous coach..Just a hint when trying to convince me showing that they lost games by a lower margins not the way to go. And actually I like Butch...more than Mario or more than Schiano.... I just think we need to go outside of Miami people.... I wont be mad at Butch just not excited

[MENTION=1396]blackvern[/MENTION]: here's my thing, I'm a BBB crew member, but I'm not a Butch radical. I love Tom Herman; I've been on him since 2013. I think he's that dude. The whole point of this thread was to highlight what improvements Butch made to a 3-9 team who won 1 game in the last 6 years b4 he got there. Ppl r acting like Butch took over this machine at UNC. This wasn't the same UNC team that Mack Brown had w All American Dre Bly, All American Julius Peppers, and All ACC QB Curry (can't think of the kid's first name, just kno he was the No 1 QB and PG in the nation when he came out of high school).

When Mack left and Bunting took over, the team went right back in the toilet. Butch was changing the culture...and yes they lost some extremely close games, but going from 3-9 to 8-5 after 2 years w a team full of 2 and 3 star players?? That's pretty good. No, it wasn't Miami good, but it was getting there.

Just saying, I'm not a Butch slurper, but I was one of those fans who didn't want him here at Miami and now that hindsight is 20/20, he did remarkable things here w an empty cupboard. It's not unrealistic for him to do the same.

But I definitely feel you, bro.
