it's worth considering that a lot of our great DBs never played in the era where defenses went smaller and the "star" position was created to put a DB on the field in place of a third linebacker. we were obviously always a pretty strict 4-3 team with safeties playing deep.
given that he became an all pro safety in the NFL, Antrel Rolle is someone in particular that we might think about differently if he was used in a more "modern" way, i.e. the way that FSU used Jalen Ramsey, or the way Downs is used, Minkah Fitzpatrick etc. Antrel was obviously good enough as a CB to be an all-american and top 10 pick so it's not like he was misused, but if he was playing college football a decade later he may have been used in a way that utilized that coverage talent at DB but also let his abilities as a safety flourish too
