His one season here is as good if not better than any other individual season by those guys you mentioned. It’s just that those other guys were here 3+ years.

It’s an all time type of season that’s for sure.

The portal / transfer era makes all-time rankings hard. Do you value 1 amazing year from a transfer or 4 very good years from a guy who committed to the program in high school? Everyone will have their own opinion on it.

Me personally, can’t put him above Rolle and Buchanan as an all time Cane since they helped rebuild the program. But if we win a chip this year my opinion may change.

He’s in the legend territory… he was most of the year in the Jaquan, Kam, Kenny Phillips kinda range of a impact player

But how he’s taken the defense and the team at times in his back to make huge plays for absolutely game changing momentum swings he’s cemented legend status.

Only person in the same breathe recently is JaQuan Johnson. Not even Corn was as good which says a lot. Top 10 easily impact-wise, he’s as effective as 2019 Rousseau. He’s a monster and far and away the real Thorpe winner. Much respect to Downs.

it's worth considering that a lot of our great DBs never played in the era where defenses went smaller and the "star" position was created to put a DB on the field in place of a third linebacker. we were obviously always a pretty strict 4-3 team with safeties playing deep.

given that he became an all pro safety in the NFL, Antrel Rolle is someone in particular that we might think about differently if he was used in a more "modern" way, i.e. the way that FSU used Jalen Ramsey, or the way Downs is used, Minkah Fitzpatrick etc. Antrel was obviously good enough as a CB to be an all-american and top 10 pick so it's not like he was misused, but if he was playing college football a decade later he may have been used in a way that utilized that coverage talent at DB but also let his abilities as a safety flourish too

In the modern game, he’s probably better than anyone else we’ve had at corner. Mostly because he plays nickel and has so many more responsibilities against the run and rushing toe passer than any old school cornerback. Honestly, it’s not really a fair question because the game is so different now and a guy playing nickel in 2025 is playing a completely different position than a guy playing corner in 1990.

Definitely the best nickel/slot we've ever had (but admittedly with it being a more modern position, the competition isn't long.) That being said, with the way he's played in these playoffs, Santana can induct Scott into the "Big Time Players/Big Time Plays/Big Time Games" club
