Let’s make sweeping generalizations based wholly on one game.
Exactly. That usually turns out so very real.
I've been a UM fan since just before Howard was announced. Yeah, I know. We sucked.
I recall all five years that we went from the outhouse to the steakhouse. We played everyone we could - from all over the country - every version of football - some monstrous running teams - some fast running teams - some pretty good passing teams.
Over those five years - we got better and better - and while some defeats and some wins were butt-ugly - after a while it didn't matter what type of football our opponents played - we were just good enough to get some unrealistic wins.
Because we saw it all. We learned.
Finally, we played for a National Championship - against a monstrous running team. They were so "powerful and strong."
It was close - but we won.
That continued. Even through all our National Championships. Some wins were butt-ugly, even with our very best teams. I mean UGLY.
I wasn't happy with this game with FSU - as with so many others in days past.
The 0-1 mentality is what it takes - but these are young men, and it's so easy to "expect" a win against an unranked team.
I was encouraged that in spite of shortcomings on play calling to pass protection - we persevered. I've also seen too many games where we basically - quit.
We didn't this time. Don't expect to roll over unranked teams, don't expect shining in every aspect of games going forward - you're just begging for your disappointments to manifest.
It's fine to point out our needs. And like every other team everywhere - we have a few.
But I see that we're getting back on track. Finally.
And it's a bit scary at times, huh?
