I know there is a direct split in our fan base right now and I, in ardent support of Lane Kiffin becoming our next HC, just want my Cane brothers who reside on the other side of the fence, to know that this is not personal. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that Mario is Cuban (at least for me it’s not?) or that he is a “Miami guy”. No. Has NOTHING to do with any of that. As an aside, I would LOVE for Mario to coach at Miami…just not right now? (Needs to follow Lane, after we’ve won big and the cupboard is stocked with plenty of top end talent for Mario to ease and continue to grow into the job).

Let me explain it this way….when employing the services of a professional- whether it be a need for a plumber or, perhaps, you have a need for a mechanic? Would you NOT go with whomever has the best track record? Would you NOT go with the plumber or the mechanic with the most experience? Well…what we “Lane supporters” are saying is “trust us, We have nearly 20 years of experience in identifying coaches who are either given the job at the wrong juncture in time or just simply the wrong coach for the job”…”and we’ve been right EVERY TIME thus far”. And to us “professionals, our experience…our “gut feeling” tells us that we are about to make the SAME mistake AGAIN.

Even better analogy. It’s like those movies where one attempts to go back in time to prevent a loved one’s death, but no matter how many times they tried, they could not stop the death from occurring? That’s what this feels like to me? We ALL love Miami…and have been watching its murder reoccur for nearly 20 years. Same accident. Different drivers…faces, but same horrifying, hurtful accident. We know how it’s going to end, We keep screaming, “WATCH OUT, MIAMI!!!”, but that weird thing that exists in the universe always intervenes at that critical moment…and Miami gets hit by the car anyway. Every. Single. Time.

Lobbying for Lane Kiffin to become our coach is liken to us “going back in time” and trying to get Miami to take a different route… or to just stay home and order takeout- ANYTHING but getting in that same car…and driving down that same road. Because we, who have been watching this play out over and over and over? We. Know. How. This. Ends….and it still hurts…

We’re still screaming “WATCH OUT, MIAMI!!!” Hoping that the universe FINALLY allows Miami to live this time…

I think the real danger that nobody’s acknowledging is that we might not get either and end up with another Manny. Or the same Manny. People act like we’re definitely getting one or the other and we can have our pick.

Grow into the job?

He's been a head coach at 2 different schools. He's won the PAC12 twice. He's in his 50s.

Hire him yesterday.

Lots of words to say so little. I'm fine with either coach, but Lane is a much bigger gamble than Mario.

Then you talk about stockpiling talent, but Mario is widely known to be a better recruiter than Kiffin...in fact, that's what he's known for. With his S Fl connections that would be even more applicable.

You then say Mario could "grow into the job", as if Kiffin is the more mature, experienced, ready coach...a guy who's been a mercenary and who has had very mixed results.

How about a bottomline upfront statement? Good lord.
