Leach is the answer

Point taken, I had forgotten about that. I still don't think it should be a huge issue though.

I don't think political affiliation matters in the long or short term if you're pretty low key about it. But when you gotta recruit Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach and you've been exceeding loud about your love for Donald Trump, it's going to be a problem.

Like Richt was obviously a pretty conservative guy, but you didn't really know anything about his politics. That's they way you need to be when you're sitting with parents.

The guy just won 11 games at Washington State.

We need Leach.

2x Pac 12 coach of the year
1x Big XII coach of the year

Only Nick Saban and Urban Meyer And Leach have won 11 games at two different power 5 programs.

The guy always does more with less. Our problem is we always do less with more. He is the solution guys and I think he would be perfect for us.

And this crap about how he doesn’t coach defense is a straight up lie. Go look at his defensive rankings the past 4 years. Sacks, turnovers, total defense, passing defense, rush defense all are good if not great.

We gotta bring the Pirate to Coral Gables.
Mannnnn you just convinced me. Bring the pirate to the gables!!

I couldn't be a bigger fan of Leach. I love everything about the guy, even the crazy sh-t. But am I wrong to have this feeling that he might not connect culturally in SoFla and at The U? I dunno why I feel that way, but always have.

Doesn't he have a home in South Florida? Thought I heard that before

Why do ppl want a guy that could care less about defense at Miami?

Fans love cupcake teams. Every fan here envisions nothing but prancing touchdowns if we hire someone like Mike Leach. That's why you get one simpleton after another begging for a spread coach. It is the pure laughable cupcake mentality. I remember when I was a kid I actually liked cupcakes. Then I took a closer look. I was maybe 8 years old. I told my dad, once you get rid of the glitzy frosting and sprinkles, there's nothing there. Just a glob of white flour. Easily crushed. Why does anyone like cupcakes as opposed to sweets with more substance? Give me the Snickers bar.

And it's identical with the fans of cupcake teams. I had to laugh at fellow Dolphins fans who somehow appreciated the Marino years, when they were such an insult compared to the smart rugged true glory era of the '70s. But now it has transferred to Canes fans who desperately want a cupcake era of our own.

I can't stop laughing every time I read one of those posts and especially the related threads. The same dependable simpleton names are the ones producing those threads.

Alabama and Clemson are big strong rugged teams, first and foremost. That is their essence. They don't resemble the Canes roster at all. Likewise with a team like Ohio State. That is what we should strive to be. If you bring in someone like Mike Leach the one absolute guarantee is you will never even threaten to resemble a team like that. You will be a little dainty cupcake team, flawed to the core. An occasional nice season but brutally exposed physically time and again. No chance to actually win it all or ever come close. Leach won't care about winning the trenches. He'll assemble all his little cupcakes in a row.

Alabama and Clemson eventually evolved to the point they found a DeShaun Watson or Tua or Trevor Lawrence. But that was hardly the top priority. They wisely understood that assembling a roster of huge talented big men was the key to long term success. Manhandle opponents on both sides of the ball. Then you plug and play the supporting pieces. Babers at Syracuse emphasized the same thing. He was mesmerized by the Redskins counter trey from the Hogs days of the '80s, and asserted that type of brute force football would be the foundation of his team should he become head coach. That story is told all the time when Syracuse games are televised. Syracuse is never competitive with Clemson, let alone nearly win two seasons in a row, without that mindset and foundation.

Too many Canes fans brainstorm to do it exactly in reverse, the lazy cupcake way. The method that emulates lazy South Florida high school football. Every time you see a Mike Leach thread or anything similar it sources from fans who simply have no idea what it takes to return to elite level in this sport.

Dino Babers is an infinitely better hire. Yall really think Leach will be able to relate to South Florida kids?

I remember people saying this same type a thing about Meyer when he left Utah for Florida. All I heard was how his offense would never work in the rough and tough SEC.

Lol no it wouldn’t

Y’all think these kids give 2 fvck about politics? SEC is republican country. **** doesn’t matter.

Leach doesn’t give a fvck what you or the media thinks. That’s why he’d be successful here. He’s a **** good ball coach, and an eccentric one... take it or leave.

He is a very smart and pragmatic guy. Emphasis on the latter. His language and straight talk may not please many at the university but he is a winner for sure.
