Bro it wasn't just 1 line backer. Colin and Spence BOTH had over 110 total tackles a piece in 2010. Colin had 119 in one less game.

Bailey, Vernon and Forston has over 10 TFL a piece that season...Forston even led the DL in TFL that season with 12. That's 5 NFL players in the front 7...all drafted. Bradon Harris was on this team...Ray Ray Armstrong was a starter at SS on this team. He had 79 tackles 4.5 tfl and 3 picks.....Jaquan had 92 tackles, 1.5 TFL and 2 picks....very similar numbers...

We have to pay attention to the "assisted tackle" stat. These numbers can be inflated or deflated by who is keeping track of stats.
For example:
Colin McCarthy led the 2010 team in tackles with 120. 68 of them were considered "assisted".
Shaq Quarterman was Miami's top tackling linebacker in 2018 with 82 but only 37 of them were considered "assisted".
McCarthy only had 7 more solo tackles but somehow was credited with 31 more assisted tackles.

Miami's 2010 defense was on the field for an average of 67.2 plays per game. The 2018 defense averaged 64.5.
How does one team get credit for so many more total tackles than the other despite having very similar numbers in terms of plays per game? Simply, the statisticians employed under Randy Shannon were more willing to give credit for assisted tackles than the ones under Mark Richt.

LSU plays a read and react 3-4 defense so the linebacker is always the stars of those defenses and will put up big numbers. Terrible comparison schematically tbqh. Look at the numbers of their defensive lineman they don’t put up big numbers at all for the most part.
