OK - props to Richt and credit where credit is due for both hires at the time he made them. No issue with that. Both have turned out great.

That being said - now, we're coming off this 7-5 season. Maybe 8-5/7-6 depending on the bowl. The O looks bad, so changes have to be made there in some form or fashion - possibly even an OC search/hire.

If Manny leaves, we're looking at a DC search/hire - and at best a tough negotiation to get Manny to stay. We need to make a hire there that replaces what Manny brought to the job in order to ensure us not taking a major step backwards.

We're also staring a recruiting class in the face that is sub-par, and anemic as far as offensive parts that we need. Early Signing Day is literally next week. NSD is in February. We lose Manny...that could get further complicated with the defensive commits jumping ship.

All 3 of these things are swirling around all at the same time. With how things have gone lately - do you have a high level of confidence in Richt to get all 3 of those things right? At this point in time, my confidence level is pretty **** low. If you have a higher level of confidence than I do - bless your heart, but I reserve the right to at least be skeptical.

Exactly...if freaking Golden could use it as a springboard to a better head coaching gig, no doubt Manny can.

Wow, how original. Just because someone doesn't choose to look at EVERYTHING through the lens of "How can I blame Richt for this" doesn't make them a Richt slurper. I am infuriated at the current state of the program and put the majority of the blame squarely on the shoulders of CMR. I'm just not so pigeon brained that I have to look at everything that way and jump on anyone who doesn't do the same. But you do you, bud!
 
People giving Diaz too much credit. I live in Austin so I seen what happens when Diaz defense goes against a quality offense which we didnt see much of this year or last. people forget the LSU, BC games where they just lined up, did some misdirection and moved the ball at will. No doubt the offense sucks. But if Miami ever had to play good offensive teams you would see it and be bltching about it. Gave up 24 points to Toledo

finding it hard to argue with this post. manny's defense has put up good numbers for sure but mainly when it is able to physically impose its will on the opposition. when we face quality offenses or QB's we don't always have the best results. that being said i would love to keep him and would hope they offer him a big raise to stay.
 
To the Manny's overrated as a DC crowd:

Who's the next guy up then? Who's your pick, and who can do better?

More importantly - do you trust Richt to hire that guy you have in mind?

There isn't a defensive coach alive who doesn't have bad games. I think Don Brown is the best in the business and they got smoked by Ohio St.

He took over a lousy product and has fielded two top 20 defenses in 3 seasons. To me his style fits perfect in today's football. Obviously it has some holes but if we fielded even an average offense this year we would be in a major bowl.
 
The problem for Maany on taking this job is, if he fails he Will have very little to fall back on. Only a coordinator for 3 years and not yet a household name. If he flames out his career will be in bad shape.
 
Although neither is open, Manny should take the FIU or FAU job to earn his stripes before jumping to a P5 school.

A lot of his recruiting ties would be wasted at Temple

This might not be the lowest the program has been, but this has been the most depressing it has been in a LONG LONG TIME.
Even knowing the flaws of last year's team, that flawed team was in the Orange Bowl less than 12 months ago.

Now, 7-5, lost your 2 best offensive players, the offense is in shambles, decommits at a position of need to UF, more decommits and transfers probably on the way, the one bright spot in the defense might lose its leader, and the most frustrating and disappointing part of it all is, it feels like the head coach is sitting there and doing nothing while his peers make necessary changes.

It ain't the end of the world but it certainly sucks. This year has really sucked.

Dont get me wrong....He is good but if we played more than 2 quality offenses a season the numbers wouldnt look so good. But imagine us playing OU, Clemson, or any top 50 offense on a regular basis. I dont want him to leave and would prefer a real OC to be added to get to major bowl games.

He is receiving strong consideration but so are the following coaches according to their board.
