Was at the game and didn't get a good view of how that went down. Anyone have video?

Forget who laid the hit but ball Was on ground w no ND player in tv frame.

Carter could've scooped the ball up and run for TD. Three years of training to be a cheeseburger took over and Carter decided to stick with the pillar of safeness, diving on the ball. The ball squirted bn his legs, and to add insult to injury, ND's QB dived into bottom of pile and took the ball.

I would try and find the video because it'll make me cry. Just know that Carter has not one but two chances to scoop it. First chance could've gone for 6 the other way.

A lot of game changing plays have just gone against us this year. No excuse but the diff btw a couple W's and L's. Hoping this makes the younger guys tougher and realize how hard they have to work and how tough it is to win in major college football.

You don't want to see that. Carter literally had 6 chances to pick it up.

This.

The ball popped up into his arms. He could've had the ball on a dead run.

He bobbled it, then dove it, but it squirted out. He had a chance to make a play. He didn't.

no...Carter tried to catch the ball in the air but tipped it up instead, then tried to catch it a 2nd time while being off balance and fell on the ball while trying to secure the recovery...but he has no hands and apparently isn't athletic enough to grab the ball in an awkward position and instead fell on top of the ball sideways, with the ball underneath is waist. A ND player simply dove at his lower body and was able to muscle the ball away from the legs of Carter, who was in a bad position to recover it at that point.

The play that everyone is expecting Carter to make is not as easy as they are making it seem...That was not an EZ "scoop 6" because there was still a receiver (who is faster than Carter) on the sideline closest to Carter. However, for him to be able to at least secure the ball and take the field goal opportunity away from ND, is much more plausible for the average player with no speed for the full 96 yard fumble return...and Carter still lacked the focus and athleticism to get the ball. I'm still a J-Rock fan, but that made me cringe because he wasted a gift from his team mates who knocked the ball out and gave him the opportunity to make up for the missed tackle on the previous drive.

Idk why everyone thinks J-Rock could've scooped that up and scored even if he did catch it...He would've made it to the 50 yard line at best before getting tracked down (or pitching it to someone quicker).

Making it to the 50 yard line would've been better than Glenn Rhee kicking the game winning FG.

I think Perry was the one who got a helmet on the ball. He's a sophomore if I'm not mistaken. Interesting that our player makers tend to be freshman and sophomores. Elder is the only upperclassman "game changer" that I can think of (not Coley, he makes so many bone headed mistakes like false starts as a senior it's ridiculous). Colbert has been ok, but he's a transfer. It's like the playmaking ability is inversely related to the amount of exposure a player had to Golden's coaching staff

Perry was the one who knocked hit loose. Perfect hat placemeant. He put his helmet right on the ball...

It would've ended, likely, w us kicking a FG to end game

Still not sure how we didn't get the ball and my seat was in the opposite end zone. Even from that distance the ball was ours.

just watched it for the first time. The ball bounced up and JC didn't field it clean and it ended up behind him. It was bang bang, not an easy play, and really just unlucky and consistent with how the year has gone. Best scenario after he didn't field it clean the first time would have been having the ball on the 1.

You can scroll down in this article to see the gif of the play. Was it an easy play, no. But, that is the type of play that you have to make to win close games and the type of play that great players make and mediocre ones do not. You have to think a guy like Elder picks it up, never mind a player like reed or ST. Bottom line is that Perry made a winning play to knock the ball free, but Carter simply did not.
