Late first half, 3rd and short..

Am I the only one that thinks Lyle's swing pass was a first down?

And even if it wasn't, that we should have gone for it?
It definitely was not a 1st - he stepped out of bounds about half a yard short. It looked that way during the play and then the replay from a different angle made it abundantly clear he was short.

If I remember correctly, Miami was at their own 38 or there abouts? No point in risking them getting a stop and having great field position at that point in the game

I don’t think it was but i 100% agree we should have got a yard. I didn’t like giving them a chance to gain momentum before the half, right after they got a good PR and then a big td run

We way better so it didn’t matter but thats the type of sequences that can swing momentum

I think Mario was at least expecting a look from the booth. The TO makes no sense after that play. He was probably short but I was surprised it didn’t at least garner a look.

He was clearly shot, and NO, you don't want to go for it and risk giving them all the momentum...that's something Mario would have done last year

Should’ve ran it there. But then we would’ve complained too predictable. Still should’ve ran it though with DM getting such a good push all day.

The big run was the drive following the punt here, so obviously hindsight but we surrendered 7 w/ better field position

Coach made right call to punt. I don't get why teams that are winning go for it on 4th and short in their own territory. Oregon just had to fight tooth and nail against Idaho cause they went for it on 4th and short from pretty much same place on the field and came up short.

He should have tried to cut it inside and it was absolutely the right call to punt there.

It was not a first down. No, we should not have gone for it. The punt was the right call in that situation. However, we should have had Martinez out there on that series. No disrespect to Lyle, but I think Martinez gets the yardage in that same scenario.

I understand giving players a breather, but Maritnez is clearly our best back. Not sure why he wasn't even on the field in a handful of series. Notice, he was back in that final series where we kicked the field goal to go up 41-17, so he was not injured.

These are the little things with the personnel that the coaches need to correct for us to go from good to elite. Good thing is, it's only week 1.

Situational coaching would suggest Martinez over Lyle there but we just give players the whole drive usually not down to down subs at RB.
Definitely not a first. Definitely should have punted. Definitely should have cut inside and likely would have been a first
