Larry Scott Staying

Amazing how folks can make an assessment of a coach being weak based on a short PR video on a
bunch of coaches discussing recruiting.
Our last interim HC was Jeff Stoutland and I remember folks also saying he sounded soft during
interviews because he was emphasizing how much the players had suffered after Shannon's firing.

That "soft" coach ended up working for Saban, not exactly known as a touchie-feelie head coach,
and did rather well at Bama.

Hires like this can cause division among the team when frustration sets in with players, players who are used to golden philosophy may turn to Scott for advice. I would have got rid of the entire staff and brought new life into this program. So far, Richt has really done good with hires, definitely two upgrades(RB/DL). I am hearing Raymond may stay at LSU for whatever it worth, if he can get over one big hump I like our chances. LSU fans would also invite the return of Cooper from USF currently.

LOL weak sauce Meds. What does Stoutland have to do with anything. He wasn't retained by Golden so it isn't an apples to apples. I never had an issue with Jeff anyway. He is coaching in the NFL now so again weak.

As many have stated, it would be better to have cleaned house. Why risk it.

He's not risking anything. Scott isn't one to cause problems. There's not been one interview where Scott pointed the spotlight on himself. Obviously if he is taking a position job then he isn't even looking to be a head coach. He's a good TE coach and the results have shown that. No reason not to keep him

Stoutland was retained by Golden. He left a few weeks later on his own.

he is a good coach. inherited a mess. i guess richt saw enough from him.

If the refs don't **** us were 5-1 with Scott and he had to retain d'no through the process (I swear I'm trying to stop using that word). He's a good coach teaches technique well. I wouldn't mind if he was OL/TE I'm pretty sure he'd be fine he played the position and worked with Kehoe for 3 yrs.

At this point we really have no choice but to trust Marks judgment.

He's certainly no stranger to big time football.

Agreed. I am not outraged, but I am not at all excited. He seems like a nice enough person, but as was stated above he seems to be a yes man which is a really really obnoxious personality trait. I am proud of the way he held things together at a point where they really could have unraveled in an ugly way, but that didn't mean he should automatically be retained as some sort of appreciative gesture.

If he is staying that means richt believes he is a good coach and is valuable enough to have on his staff, and I will just have to trust his judgement at this point.

I'm sorry but with all due respect we need better at OL coach than "I'm pretty sure he'd be fine....maybe"

Hey I could be wrong about him coaching the OL/TE everything is pure speculation for now, he could've took the desk job that was offered to Kehoe for all we know lol

Wrong. Golden retained Stoutland but Stoutland left when he was offered the Alabama gig shortly after.

Urban Meyer kept Charlie Strong.

It really doesn't matter. Any hysteria over Scott staying is nonsense. It would be a different situation if Richt was keeping 4-5 coaches from the previous staff but that isn't the case. He's keeping a guy who has coached productive TE's, recruited talented players, and did a decent job as HC.

That or he knew about the impending Nevin Shapiro scandal.

All of this. Especially the part about yes men being obnoxious, obsequious fellationistas. I'll roll with Richt on it though.

Richt's former OL coach took a job at ULM. I'm willing to wager Larry Scott is a better coach than he is.

Scott played OL in college, and he was run game coordinator for us. The guy could coach OL, easy, IMO.

Larry Scott was worth keeping, he just isn't ready to be a head coach yet, cut the guy some slack he did a **** of a job keeping this team together and I respect what he did with Njoku and Herndon this year; not with Dobard though, I think he needs to get his weight down, that why I think parting ways with Swasey would probably be in everybody's best interest, Scott may be a good coach one day, he just needs to learn the right way under someone with substance, the regime that just left was Mickey Mouse at best.
Scott is overweight?

OK, assume Scott is being rewarded for maintaining some form of order and continuity finishing out the schedule and gets to work under an outstanding coach. He will fit in somewhere and either grow in the job or use as a jumping off point to another position. Not worthy of a 12 page dissertation. Move on.
