Larry Coker

Coker never has aged over the years.

He's looked about 85 years old ever since he was OC. Even though he's only 68 now so he would have been about 48 when he first become OC.

It's amazing looking at that picture of him from 2001 or 2002. He looked like he belonged in a nursing home even back then.

I'm glad it still aggravates him as it does everyone else. I will never forget being at the game & feeling that it was stolen from us.

Fμck Ohio State and that ref. Biggest outright theft of a football championship...and no backlash.

No, the biggest theft of a National Championship took place in Oct. of 1988, in South Bend, Indiana. The Canes got absolutely hosed on what was the worst case of officiating in the history of College Football: The Cleveland Gary fumble that wasn't, the turnover on downs that wasn't, the spotting of the ball that was bizarre. After the game the Refs admitted that they blew it, but result was the same. The only blemish in a UM season in which they finished 11-1 and ranked number 2 in the final poll behind the Irish.
We would have won that game were it not for that travesty. Would have been Jimmy's 2nd title before moving on to the Cowboys.

I'm still not over that game. Every time I turn aroun , I have some buckeye honk reminding me of that game saying how they were the better team. If it weren't for the fact that I'm a Christian, I would beat the crap out of every buckeye honk that comes at me with that mess. My hatred for Taint is only surpassed by my hatred for okra, watermelon (I know), and Notre Dame.

Nobody honks at me, I think they are too scared. I will go at each and every $uckeye who brings up that game...The only honking ever was me to that Buck I Guy (White Cowboy Suit) in his old Chevelle convertible on I-670...He took up the challenge and I blew past him in my loaded SUV...Weak Sucknut.

That wasn't in a championship game, dude. I'm talking about the theft of a championship in a final game.

He should. That was the beginning of the end.

He got screwed. We got screwed. LC was a good OC while he was under Butch. He was in over his head as HC. Lets not forget Barry Alvarez was targeted when guys like Ed Reed stepped in and promoted LC.

If he would have won that game, he would have been the only HC to go undefeated his first two years and win back to back NCs and still get fired a few years later.

That assumes that Coker still would have gotten fired if he had won back to back NCs. And I'm not so sure he would have.

I'm 80% sure he at least would have survived the 2006 season. Beyond that is pretty much baseless speculation. (Depending on how you think he would have done from 07 onward.)

The fight would have done him in regardless. He should have been fired two earlier.

Just the fact that the referee didn't pick up the flag and overrule Porter(the Back judge) was insane to me. The side judge was right on the play and waved it off as incomplete. Porter was standing on the end line behind the goalposts if I'm not mistaken and waited 7 seconds!. Just unbelievable. I'll never forget Dan Fouts saying how awful the call was. Just incredible.

The biggest blown call of the game other than the Sharp PI was the absolutely mind numbing call on Sean Taylor's int return when Clarett tried to strip him and they had joint possession. The rule states that the offensive player(which in this case was Taylor) is awarded possession. The imbecile of an official awarded possession to OSU because Clarett plays offense.

I know how ridiculous that sounds but I'm sure that's what happened in the heat of the moment. The ref had brain lock, misinterpreted the rule and nobody corrected him. It's the only possible explanation given that it was called joint possession. Maybe I remember it wrong as I was drinking heavily and have never watched it again since and if so someone will correct me but that's the way I remember it.

For me -the loss to Penn St was worse because we were clearly the better team. We beat PSU 9/10 times if we play again. Even on a day with 7 turnovers we were one play and a few yards away from winning that game.

The PSU loss was probably the worst loss in Canes history, because our defense played lights out while our offense missed the team bus. Just awful. What makes it worse is that Pedophile Defensive Coordinator was running the show.

Probably the most statistically lop-sided loss in Championship history:
Yards-
Miami 445
PSU 162
First Downs-
Miami 22
PSU 8

1988 ND, I still see as the worst loss I've witnessed.
1996 PSU (1997 Fiesta) would be #2
2002 OSU (2003 Fiesta) would be #3 .

3 additional championships right there, coming down to 3 plays.

Sharpe not letting Gamble run by him and squatting in the flat on 4th and 12 was a killer.
If you ever decide to watch that game again, watch Taylors reaction. He had deeper coverage.
Gamble got to Sharpe's body and was allowed to push him off.
If Sharpe squats, he has a walk-off pick 6 for the Natty and instantly becomes part of 'Cane lore.

Lol... It was the drinking. I will never forget that play..... The only bad play Sean had in his career... Clarett got that fair and square, unfortunately. I was mad at Sean for a while for that lol....

The disgust with that game, for me, was so horrible, I actually rooted FOR the Gators when they played tOSU for the title. Yes, I did.

Also on the same play I believe McDougal tried to be a hero and freelanced out of his responsibility. If McDougal runs the play the way he was coached to Wilfork easily crushes Krentzel. This is what I'm told as I certainly don't remember details like that as I was chit faced and haven't had the desire to rewatch since.

we have been robbed of 3 nc's. this game, the 2000 team, and the cleveland gary fumble call in ND.

Larry is a better man than me; I still want a piece of Terry Porter. Every time I watch the U part 2, all I can think about is we got screwed out of # 6. Every time it was left up to the NCAA or the refs, we got jobbed. 2000, the computers putting FSU over us. ****, I would've accepted WU over us b/c they beat us, but FSU??? 1988, a momentum swinging TD ruled as a fumble against ND (the day I began hating ND). 2003, Terry Porter and the phantom PI call. It's spilled milk, and I still cry over it!
