Lane Kiffin

Nope. No it wasn't.
My understanding is that it was Mario or we stay with Manny.
The one thing that is always left out of the discussion is whether UM was prepared to direct all the other resources, and whether the NIL money would have flowed as freely, if Manny was still the HC.
I’ve wondered was this a complete commitment to athletics regardless of coach or whether the commitment was More connected to Mario.

It's such a tricky discussion. There was never really a 1B option, whether some people think that was Lane or Manny. It's just not true. It was Mario or bust with the search committee. And I truly believe that if Mario had said "no", we would have let Radakovich take over and find someone NOT named "Lane Kiffin" or "Manny Diaz".

But you believe the financial commitment was made regardless of who ended up as the coach?

But you believe the financial commitment was made regardless of who ended up as the coach?

I believe that things were moving in that direction with firing Beta Blake and recruiting Radakovich. So, yes, I believe that if we hired Dan first, and then HE hired a coach, that coach would have gotten the institutional monetary support.

Ruiz money too? Not as sure. Perhaps.

If Manny was retained? Let's wait another year to spend, but money would have started to arrange itself. Manny was given the financial backing to hire more people back in 2020 (not hundreds of support staff, but at least a DC and a DFO) and he hard-passed.

But with the right Radakovich hire (hint, hint, not Kiffin), the UM money was going to be made available. With Mario, everybody is falling over themselves to spend, though, which is a beautiful sight.

I'll just say this. We might could have hired someone else...but I'm not sure anyone else would have had a stronger VISION of so many things to get done as Mario has. So if you hire Coach X, maybe we hire more consultants, more video guys, more support staff, etc...but do they push to take the IPF to 100 yards? Maybe not. Do we hire a "physical recovery" specialist? Maybe not. Do we hook the players up with sports psychologists? Maybe not.

Mario has 360 degree vision, he sees stuff that other guys might overlook. He was back-to-back employed by Alabama and Oregon, and with the stuff he has picked up from Saban and Knight, I think he is INFINITELY more prepared to run a modern football program than he was when he was at FIU.

It wasn't going to be Manny and it wasn't going to be Lane, though.

I think Mario had to help them build the road map.

Glorified OC is bit tough. Lane Kiffin is a good coach. He became a HC very early and didn’t know how to handle it but he has redeemed himself since.
How has he redeemed himself? Getting undeserved opportunities after opportunities yet has had two good seasons.

I’m obviously a Lane lover, but why was UM so against hiring him as 1B?

Rad wasnt even here. He wasn’t coming without Mario and the financial commitment

He did a good job at FAU and is doing a good job at Ole Miss. If he was terrible at FAU, he probably would be a commentator for games instead of coaching them.

Because we weren't just looking to hire a play-caller. Nobody disputes that Kiffin is an innovative offensive mind.

But we needed a CEO. A planner. A builder. A guy who would do more with his free time than tweet, smoke weed, and bang coeds. ****, Mario has no free time, he's on the job 24-7.

Lane was not the right guy, even if a couple of Trustees liked his offense. He never got a callback or an interview. It was just never going to happen, no matter how many CIS porsters tried to use magical thinking to conjure up a job offer for Lane.

The financial commitment was there on the university side. And no AD in the world bases his job decision on who the HC is.

Whether you want to admit it or not, there were cracks beginning to show at Clemson. Maybe Dan could have put up with it for a few more years, but the UM opportunity and the Clemson issues made it the right job at the right time. Plus he's a UM alum, and this would give him a chance to finish what Sam started.

"He wasn't coming without Mario". Funny.

Rad wasn’t coming without a qualified HC and a financial commitment. I thought it was pretty common knowledge he was waiting to see what we did with the HC situation before he made his decision. But hey man. I don’t claim to know anything and everything in regards to the University like you do.

No wonder TrumpyCane wasn’t hired

Well, at least you admit you don't know things.

Yeah, Dan is such a rookie that he needed a search committee to find a "qualified HC" for him. What a joke. Dan's good enough and confident enough to find a "qualified head coach" on his own. He knew Mario was our #1 target, but he's alpha enough to take the job and find a coach on his own, if Mario had fallen through.

I already stated that the financial commitment was in place, but you keep repeating what I already said.

"Pretty common knowledge". Very funny, but that's your "source", so good for you.
