My guy! appreciate you supporting the channel

Great videos but the praise for those "picks" Indiana sets effectively smashing into a lineman from behind or in the side is kind of annoying. That's a penalty! A 15 yarder at that! Why isn't this talked about as something referees should start calling? It's a tactic of a weak and less capable team. They can't actually win one on one matchups so they hit you from behind to free up a teammate. It's 1% impressive teamwork and 99% cheating and being allowed to get away with it because referees are lazy and stupid.

It feels like no matter how bush league the tactic is Indiana gets praised for doing it. Instead of setting picks with blocks in the back they could roll into the back of opposing Olineman's knees, both taking them out of the play and potentially injuring them, and people would say it's another example of "Cignetti's superior coaching acumen".

Can we line up in goaline all game and push the pile forward. I feel it’s coming and we gonna do it all night!!

I watched most of their games this season, what game has that been called a penalty? I never saw it called once.. What actual penalty is it also?

Block in the back! You can't hit a player from behind be they on offense or defense. It's a 15 yard penalty but again.......referees are a lazy and stupid sub species so I'm not surprised they don't call it. Tangwall's videos are fantastic I just wish he'd point out that this tactic, a staple of Indiana's defense, is a flagrant penalty and it should be called.

*Unless they have the ball of course.

Appreciate your content and contribution to this community. You just gave me something to do while I wait for playoffs today.

Obvious penalties turn into savvy coaching by "the greatest coach ever" and the team that "never makes mistakes".

Combine that with what their weak Oline is allowed to get away with, see the double hold and choke on Kenyatta Jackson in the Big Ten Championship (Coogan should have been arrested for assault), and I kinda get why some of these Indiana fans are so confident. Granted it's their first year watching football so it's probably more just inexperience.

I dont see the olineman turned around and getting hit in back, they are picking them from the side at best, Im not taking up for thembut I just havent heard that called or pointed out. Maybe it becomes more of an issue moving forward as the spotlight is more on them but I just never seen it run how they run their stunts. Its very savvy and borderline but unless its pointed out by others I dont think they will call it. Thats on other coaches to deem it an issue, I think more teams will definitely adopt it.

Just watch Tangwall's video on Indiana's front. He has multiple examples of them running into the back, it doesn't have to be square in the back to be a penalty, of Olineman.

Yes other coaches should raise **** about it but IU is such a media darling that doing so would get you labeled a cry baby or "just mad about Indiana's success".

Time stamped. That is a block in the back by any definition. If it was an offensive player doing it to a defender everyone would call it a block in the back without question. The idea of the block in the back rule is to prevent hits on players who can't see the hit coming. That Olineman could not possibly see him coming and the hit is basically on his lat. The lineman is also leaning forward so I don't want to hear about how this is on his side.

That's obviously legal as he hits him from the front. The one I time stamped for you violates literally every word of the rule regarding blocks in the back.

In zero way is it a block in the back on a dlineman stunting and hitting an Olineman.

Nor would it be a block in the back of an Olineman hit a dlineman.

Block in the back is not a penalty inside the tackle box and like within 3 or so yards.

Exactly. I don’t even need to watch the clips. Block in the back is legal behind line of scrimmage and inside the tackles is not a penalty.

That's about cut blocking. It's saying that if a defender lines up with his back to the offense or he turns his back as he's moving through a gap he's fair game. Also when they do this to a tackle who's in a pass set, like in the example I gave, he's outside the tackle box anyways as he's clearly more than three yards behind the LOS.

The rule is designed to protect players who can't see another player approaching. That's exactly what many of those picks are doing. Hitting a player on the back to free up a teammate.

The rule you are talking about refers exclusively to offensive players. And no a block in the back behind the LOS is not legal! LOL. So you're telling me that a pass rusher can get passed an Olineman and the be blindsided as he pursues the QB? Yeah that's not the rule.

What you are talking about is a rule that allows offensive lineman to block defensive lineman who gave them their back when slanting through a gap or other similar situations.

You are wrong. The is in zero way the intention of the rule. The intention of block in the back is not in any way to protect an Olineman/Dlineman who lined up ON the LOS. The only way there is block in back called there is literally if they do it because they got beat and they are doing it to prevent the other player from making the play.
