Landing DE Roche unlikely

You forgot all-world #1 player overall and always injured and not playing Jaelen Phillips.

I think Miami has all the talent in the world at DE but is 2 injuries away from either having Patchan start or having sophomores and freshmen as the entire rotation.

The team has way bigger needs than defensive end but they should be stacking talent and getting the roster numbers right. I’m all for trying to get players at any position who are proven starters elsewhere. The team still has 6-9 initial counters to use for this season.

The team is going to have something stupid like 8 seniors for 2020 and be nowhere near 85 scholarships (even after using all initial counters), the roster composition is a train wreck.

You are correct, I did forget about Phillips. Super excited about his potential bc his HS tape was amazing but he hasn’t really played in almost 2 years and has had trouble with injuries. So it falls in line with the general statement of talented depth but unproven to this point. A rotation of Roche, Rousseau, Phillips and Harvey/Chantz would be sick! Especially if Rousseau kicked inside on pass downs

We should be all out blitz on Roche. 13 sacks a year ago is just to **** to pass up. Anyone that says we don’t need him is crazy. That’s an improvement on this line regardless of how you try to spin it.

It doesn’t make sense for him, as talented as he is, to come here and become a mid-high snap rotational player. He’s smart to go somewhere that he’ll be on the field the whole time...

Exactly.

While this staff has it flaws, it's incredible how they literally get blamed for everything—whether it's recruiting-based like this (a kid who wouldn't have room to fully shine as a one-year transfer) or dead-weight players not doing their job—ill-informed folks just love to scream "COACHING!!!" about everything.

We are so bad at recruiting that the word is UNC and Georgia Tech lead us in the chance to land Roche who wants to make an announcement on his new school this week. Two schools with defenses ranked worse than ours last year yet they can recruit better than us.

Georgia Tech new coach is a kickass recruiter. He just landed a Top 25 high school class and now may land Roche after winning 4 games this year. Further proof our staff can not recruit!

by this logic our staff can recruit. We just landed a top 20 class after winning 6 games this year. Including a loss to GT.

No one is saying he wouldn't be a good addition—they're countering the argument that Miami is somehow being out-recruited by the likes of Georgia Tech, when the reality is the kid would have a better playing opportunity there and wouldn't see as many snaps at Miami.

Kid is a one-year transfer option that needs to go wherever he is going to see the most playing time, as he is trying to work his way into an NFL contract. Unless he worked his way to full-time starter at Miami and saw a ton of snaps, makes sense that he'd look elsewhere—so people need to stop the inference that the staff is being "out-recruited" in any courting of him.

As mentioned above, Miami just pulled in a Top 20 class with some really solid kids—on the heels of 6-7 this year and a 7-9 run under Richt after that 10-0 start. Not a bad recruiting cycle based on recent state of the program.

look im okay w not getting him and letting the younger talent we have get those snaps. the drawback with the portal is that the guys u bring in wont get to see those necessary snaps bc ur playing transfers over them.

After seeing what manure did with a power 5 team this year and being employed at the school this kid is transferring from for all of 2 days after preaching continuity, was there really any expected chance of bringing the dude in lol?

Bc you are playing on the opposite side of a 1st rounder in a defense that allows u to be aggressive and stack up TFLs n sacks.

Yep, Manny gone after a 2-2 record and getting pummeled in East Lansing. Interim HC plays young guys to make himself more valuable to the new HC (player relationship). Grad Transfer sits.

This, DE is not a huge need position. Save the spot for OL and WR.

Rolling into the season with a lot of youngsters at de is dangerous business , there’s a lot of questions there. Harvey was overwhelmed in his little time against La Tech. There’s a reason our staff is out there looking for a instant impact de. They know.

I’d like to have another grown man that had produced at a high level. Even though it’s doubtful he’s coming.

We are gonna go 4-0 to start the season. Mark it down tiger.

Okay Blake...Did Madam Kelly, err, you wife, buy you a Diet Coke in the arena tunnel the other night?
Brother shake off that b1tchassness, we had a HORRIBLE year, I get it. But we will bounce back. Our defense is very good and if had a FG kicker we would have been 9-3. Temple UAB Wagner n MSU are gonna get it bad.

Would love to see Roche here as he’s a grown **** man that could be playing opposite Rousseau at DE between those two they could’ve pulled down 25-30 sacks and @40 TFL. Doubtful he’s coming so we need to play the most talented across from GR15 and see where that gets us. If that’s Harvey, great. If it’s Williams so be it. I want <20 sacks between the two and I don’t want Rousseau having to feel he has to get 15 of them just to make the DL better. If he gets them, fantastic. Make it to where when the opposition doubles up Greg that we make them pay, and dearly for doing so.

I think some of you are forgetting about Jaelen Phillips. We could potentially have 2 1st rounder lining up at DE this year, just as long as the nonsense from the beginning of last season doesnt happen again (Playing Patch over GR15). Our focus in the portal should be OL and CB. I dont care what new scheme we are running. We need plug and play OL and CBs!!
