Lance confirms this is worst loss in Mario era

Depends on what you define the worst loss to be.

If you define it as losing with the biggest on-paper talent discrepancy, it's MTSU 2022.

If you define it as losing a game in which you had the highest expected win percentage, it's GT 2023.

If you define it as losing a game in which you had the most to gain by winning it, it's Syracuse 2024.

If you define it as most frustrating loss with something on the line, maybe it is SMU. But that's probably recency bias. My vote would be Syracuse last year. As embarrassing at MTSU was/is, it's year 1 and we weren't winning anything that year. GT wasn't frustrating as much as it was horrifyingly embarrassing. We won the game somewhat convincingly, until we did the dumbest **** of all-time. But Syracuse, you're up 21-0 against an average team, with a playoff berth on the line. Hold on, you're in the playoffs. Blow it, you're not. It was totally cut and dry, black and white. And we blew it.

It's Syracuse last year without a question. All we had to do was not blow a 21 point lead with the number overall pick and we were basically guaranteed a playoff spot and had a chance to win the ACCCG finally . Last years offense was going to put points up on anyone IMO. We at least had a punchers chance despite that abortion of a defense.

This SMU is worst of the three. GT, hard to fathom, but it was early in his stint. Syracuse, we had no D which was knowingly our Achilles. SMU, we have the D, we have the O, we know what’s at stake, and the penalties and lack of creativity on the O do us in. It would have been less frustrating if our decline was a recent thing, but it’s fnckin9 25 years of one thing or the other. The patience tank is on empty.

In other words we got options and Mario is creating ways of worst losses.. Back 2 work

The worst losses for me are the ones against an opponent you should beat, that costs the program dearly.

GT 2005
Clemson 2009
Pitt 2017
Syracuse 2024

The SMU loss is both costly AND was a ridiculous collection of ineptitude and failure, so you can add it to the list.
