Lamar Thomas WR Coach

No coach (not one iota) is letting a great coach go to payback a favor owed. Just like you said he did ok. No thanks. He doesn't exactly have to schools fighting for his services.

That is why I said he did OK. He was involved in the UK-Louisville deal and that began the process. Bear Mangino coached with Bob Stoops and his kid got promoted from a GA to WR coach when Lamar was not renewed. It was a favor, it's a business. Lamar will not be the top guy, definitely a long shot.

Manny doesn't strike me as the "bring back former players as coaches" kind of guy, even IF those players have coaching experience.

Can the individual recruit?

Being a former player shouldn't be an automatic disqualification for position coaches. ****,...2 of our last 3 HCs were former players, but the problem is they weren't good fits.

Let the new OC choose who he wants. Manny is showing some confidence on what he wants. Biggest hire of his life

I think you let the new guy bring in someone but I don't think you let him bring in the whole offensive staff. HC needs guys loyal to him especially when a guy like Fedora will only be here a short time.

That's the big question. Manny keeps talking about getting guys who are the best fit. This isn't necessarily a negative.. But doesn't that sound like "fck rankings & stars, I want the guys who fit my system"?
Obviously we'll have to wait & see but some of those names being thrown around (Ponce) aren't exactly elite recruiters.

I agree that it shouldn't be an automatic disqualification. Our former players are very vocal. I'm not so sure Manny wants to deal with that. Notice how the one defensive coach being reevaluated is a former player?
But I guess we'll see.

Bring on LAMARTICUS! **** yes! If the OC wants him he'll get a die hard CANE that can recruit north central Florida and midwest....and who doesn't drop passes! But I agree - should 100% be new OC decision. Anybody that knows Lamar knows he's a diehard Cane fan.

I was all for Manny firing the entire offensive staff, but if you’re going to fire them all you have to bring in upgrades. Lamar Thomas is a major downgrade from Dougans.

Gotta figure Fedora will have a lot of say in whose on his staff/unit.But saying that I think Manny will have to lend some guidance into getting some guys to help transition in recruiting.
It’s great to have an all new staff bu you have to have a couple guys that will help to make the transition when it comes to the local coaches and recruiting..
As fickle and jealous as S.Fla coach’s are it’s going to be interesting to see whose hired to do this.I wouldn’t be surprised to see Harley or Dugans brought back to help with this.Guys can recruit if nothing else.

1st thought that comes to mind is **** no. How many former players have been successful here?
why is it people think if former alum should come back as a coach. I like my former canes but doesn't mean should be coaches here. and really u let fedora get his own guys if your are diaz. or at least have a say in his guys.

none of old staff fired coming back man. but they could go hire a local hs coach to be on staff like lockette as did with cooney.

he "developed" Devante parker? my response was no, but knowing that, it's now a **** NO. seeing DP's "skills" (the ability to drop passes) in the NFL makes me puke.

Look, If Fedora is the pick then he’s going to end up coaching either RBs or WRs. I’m willing to bet he’s going to coach WRs because he was one.

But since we’re having the convo I would say yes to Lamar just on recruiting purpose. Tyron Carrier from WVU would be a homerun hire.
