I get people's worry about the worst case scenario of retaining Diaz being realized, since it's not like the last 18 years have been much reason to have hope that things will be different. But I don't understand squinting to read tea leaves and ****ing yourself off about press conference soundbites. The guy probably knows that most everyone thinks he's a dead man walking. What's he supposed to say? Hey everyone it's been a really great run, this team's gonna suck next year without me? Sorry for blowing it because i'm *ss at my job, see ya later? At this point his fate is entirely out of his control, and he knows it, so he's likely gonna keep making anodyne comments and maintaining some level of professionalism because to do otherwise would reflect poorly on him if/when he goes to look for a new job.
