Ladarius Gunter

who coached Gunter at UM?

when UM players have sucess in the NFL, it's because of natural talent? He never recieved coachingf?

let me guess, the NFL players coached ihm up in the 2 weeks of practice?

Ya'll are a bunch of losers on here.

He's playing a completely new position and had to drop thirty pounds. Hard to give credit to a staff for that .

Maybe just maybe these kids are finally playing to their strengths and not thinking .

Dl getting to actually rush . A db actually getting to use his long arms and size to press, not sit back 10 yards.

Possible?

LMAO, there were reports saying he had the best techinque.

Who coached him at UM?

Thanks a lot.

MOre losers in these threads.

We get it ,you're a troll.

The reality is that incoming players have better chance in making the League because coaches overcoach [please note: not coached up] their players who, as a consequence, never get to really play with that reckless abandon (which is saving to players bodies) because they play while over thinking and always trying to figure the game nuances and techniques. Basically, while their talents are NOT optimized at UM they end up with a lot left not only in the physical tank, but with an expansive mind.

Food for thought: Don't slower players in the skills positions, particularly white players, who usually are college starters and on NFL rosters almost always said to have a good grasp of the game and having a background of being well coached in addition to being "coachable"? I know Ladarius Gunter doesn't particularly fall in all facets of the aforementioned category, but still, it may well be said that Paul Williams had him absorb good coaching from his DB coach.

Gunter, according to Packers DB coach Joe Whitt, shot up the depth chart because of his "outstanding technique" in coverage, size and production. Dismissed by some teams after running 4.65, he exhibits quickness out of his breaks and toughness.

"Physical, tough, knows the game," one scout said.

Though i do agree that we have developed some guys right, using them right not so much, but paul williams is our worst coach hands down, go back and watch the vid of them discussing whether to offer a DB or not and he had no say in the convo, he wasnt even at the table, if you are a college position coach you better be good at two things, 1. Recruiting or 2. Coaching, he aint good at either and it seems like the other coaches agree

Paul Williams cost him millions.

This. Guy was a steal recruiting wise and probably would have been a 3rd rounder at worst if we had a >80 IQ DB corch.

Paul Williams is an awful recruiter, that we know. But I've read several reports about how Gunter came in with the best technique of any DB they have had recently as a rookie. Is that credit to Paul Williams? Idk. Neither do you. He could be a fine coach and the scheme is just making all these DB's look bad.

The only knock on Gunter coming out was his 40, and other pro day tests. That's on Swasey and his group of strength and speed coaches.

He is a horrible recruiter but yet he has landed the following:

5star: Tracy Howard
4star: Deon Bush
4star: Artie burns
4star: Corn Elder
4star: Jamal Carter
4star: Jaquan Johnson
3star: rayshawn Jenkins.....
Talented group. What he hasn't done is increase their ball hawking ability to get more turnovers via interceptions...

Tracy and deon came here because of duke, he didnt recruit elder hurlie did, jaquan came because he wanted to be close with his family, artie and jamal i dont know too much about there recruitment, and rayshawn was taken from USF not too hard to do that

Miami's secondary should ALWAYS look like that, or even better. All that is required to get it is a) a coach with a pulse who b) recruits the tri-county area.

That boy balling already. He picked off Arod in the first training camp practice and is receiving rave reviews from players and coaches. Im positive he'll make the 53 man roster and will be a big impact this season, just like Sam did in his first season. As a Packers and Canes fan, its crazy seeing coaching from two different perspectives. We're only a coaching change away from competing for national championships immediately! Oh, the Packers will win the Super Bowl this year!

sfowler06: As a Canes fan, this brings so much joy to my heart...but as a BEARS fan, this is one more reason why I'm going to hate Jay Cutler this year as he faces the Packers and Gunter will make a living off of picking him off. smh.

He wasn't the primary recruiter on any of those.. How about the ones he missed and still misses. Apparently all the players have the ballhawking ability because when they go to the NFL they are labeled ballhawks, and having great "ball skills". They don't just learn them as soon as they get there in a few months. They already have it.

That's why I said maybe it is the scheme. They obviously have the ability because they all show out in the league and get recognized for it. It's the same at DL too, Chickillo obviously had the talent, he didn't just learn it in the Senior Bowl or in training camp, he already had it. So is every positional coach here bad and they learn these skills in 2-3 months as soon as they leave every time, or is it scheme holding them back.

I'm leaning toward the latter option. It's also scheme holding back the recruiting and the types of players that we want to come here. All of that falls on the HC. I'm done bashing any positional coaches, to me it all comes back to Al Golden. He tells these guys what to do.

Self-Taught? Gunter came from an obscure community college before UM. What? He got an encyclopedia about the fundamentals of Football?

Notwithstanding the fact that Paul Williams is not a dynamic person, and maybe maybe not the best recruiter (who could sell playing that kind of Football while thinking you're some phucking genius protege as the idiot Dono), probably with a mantra that his action and body of work will permeate his players. Dude got some solid experience coaching DBs at the next level. Yet still, I doubt having DBs 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage is his call...man is likely following the marching orders from up top.

I agree with this post. The problem under golden is NOT development. The guy was coached very well here. It is bad game day coaching, inept scheming, and dumb strategization.

Ladarius Gunter makes game changing Clinching Interception vs. NE Pats in Preseason matchup.
The problem under golden is NOT development. The guy was coached very well here. It is bad game day coaching, inept scheming, and dumb strategization.

Foxborough, Mass. — The play panned out as something of a recreation from the first day of a training camp, an unexpected glimmer from an unknown player, although his exploits have become more and more routine.

It began with a play-action fake near midfield, a backup quarterback working through reps the New England Patriots hope will prepare him to replace the potentially suspended Tom Brady. Jimmy Garoppolo feigned a handoff to the running back, turned to face the field and zipped a bullet toward the left sideline.

The pass arrived with four hands there to meet it, two from intended receiver Josh Boyce and two more from LaDarius Gunter, a cornerback for the Green Bay Packers out of the University of Miami. Leather of ball met leather of gloves in an entangled heap. The ball squirted free.

Gunter pounced, just as he has done all throughout training camp, and with two hands he secured the first Green Bay Packers interception of the 2015 season. A 28-yard return set up the go-ahead score one play later, and the Packers exited Gillette Stadium with a 22-11 win thanks in large part to an impressive performance from a pair of young corners. Their efforts, buoyed by a stout defensive effort across the field, limited Brady and Garoppolo to less than 170 passing yards combined.

"We're getting our hands on a lot of balls," coach Mike McCarthy said. "As a secondary, it's happening a lot more this year. You can see it in the practices and it definitely carried over to the field."

With the cornerback position an obvious area of need following the off-season departures of Tramon Williams and Davon House, the Packers opted to solve the problem with youth. With 1st round draftee CB Randall injured, the beautiful Massachusetts night belonged in many ways to Gunter, an undrafted free agent from the University of Miami. Gunter made headlines on the opening day of training camp when he logged the first interception of Aaron Rodgers during 11-on-11 drills. His extremely physical play throughout camp — cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. said Gunter excels with hand placement at the line of scrimmage — bothered some of the Packers' most veteran receivers.

With his team trailing 11-9 early in the third quarter Gunter made a mid-route adjustment to intercept Garoppolo. What he initially believed to be a "go" route morphed into a quick stick along the sideline. Gunter stopped, broke back toward the line of scrimmage and thrust his hands into the midsection of Boyce. Using the same hand strength that enables him to jam receivers, Gunter launched the ball into the air in front of the Patriots' bench. He snagged it at waist height and bolted the other way.

"I just tried to sit down when he sat down," Gunter said. "I actually went to bat the ball down, and it popped up in my hands." Assuming Sam Shields and Casey Hayward start on the outside, Gunter could find a role in the nickel or dime packages as a rookie. Randall should be in the mix, as the Packers rebuild their cornerback depth following the departures of Tramon Williams and Davon House.

On that opening series of the third quarter, Gunter practically stole the ball from Boyce and then raced 28 yards the other way, setting up a TD run by rookie running back Alonzo Harris two plays later. Boyce ran a “stick route,” and Gunter transitioned out of his backpedal and broke on the ball perfectly.

It was the type of play Gunter has been making in practice, and now he showed he can make it in a game as well.

“I went to bat the ball down, but it kind of fell in my hands, and I just went from there,” he said. “It’s always a big deal when you can transfer your practice habits to the game and make plays.”
