That seems to be exactly his problem. He's got the speed, but he seems to be scared to use it. It's like he's either overthinking it or too scared/timid to just play at full speed. You see it both as a receiver and a returner. Hopefully he'll get over that soon, because he could be really good.He had nothing but green grass in front of him and he barely moved forward. I feel bad for him honestly. He’s timid
I hope it all clicks from him soon. You can see how fast he is and his ability at times to get open. This is a good thread.
Pope has all of the physical tools to be a great one. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have the confidence. He had a couple of returns where if he stops overthinking and just turns on the jets, he could have had huge returns. He's still in his own head too much and just has to learn to play fast and trust his own ability.
I would actually keep him on PR/KR because it will make him a better receiver, and I do think he'll start to be more comfortable with more reps. Once it clicks for him, he's got the potential to be a huge weapon for us.
I posted before I saw yours...pretty much feel the same way. This is a good thread.

Wasn't a muffed punt. He fumbled.Pope muffed the punt bad against UAB. Everything Pope does on the field looks off. He doesn’t act comfortable with the ball in his hands. He’s not a natural catcher. It’s really a shame because he can look so smooth running at times. He’s lucky he’s getting an extra year with covid. I haven’t given up on him yet because you can see the potential.
Hall at PR isn’t ideal. Maybe if he’s got that Ed Reed in him you do it on occasion. He should never be full time starting at FS safety. That’s a position where you have to run constantly. It’s not worth him getting gassed and giving up a big play.
I’d like to see Restrepo, Clarke, and Knighton get shots. Prefer to keep Knighton on PR only. He needs to add some weight to be on KR duty. Restrepo on the other hand is already around 200lbs and kept his wiggle.
That tape with Clarke speaks for itself. He’s last on the CB depth chart. The coaches have no excuse not to have him taking serious reps at returner in practice.
Yeah he returns as if he's timid. I'm far from giving up on him cuz I'm a big believer in any kid that can tear up big classification Dade county football. I think noodles is in his own head too much right now. When he gets a lil more comfortable and let the butterflies out he will be fine.He had nothing but green grass in front of him and he barely moved forward. I feel bad for him honestly. He’s timid
Yep, people should focus on things that matter.
This is the only correct answer folks
Im with u with everything u said execpt putting rooster back there. I would imagine losing him would be as big as losing cam on the simple fact that our RB depth as a whole is paper thin. If it was up to me I would put Clarke,X, Keyshawn back there. Sure they're freshmen but they all have a lot of returning experience in high school. They all were very dynamic doing it also.Lol what’s the worse of the bunch:
-Pope as main PR and KR
-Cam as other KR
- Gurvan as backup PR
Cam and Gurvan are dudes we can’t lose on D. No reason to have them on returns.. You can’t tell me there aren’t better options at PR and KR than Pope. He really needs to concentrate on becoming a better WR. Please give Rooster, X or Clarke an opportunity
Pretty sure that was back in the leather helmet days. Bro, you ARE old if you remember that.I'm so old, I can remember a game against the Gators that was pretty much essentially lost when a punt returner we had named Jeff Thomas dropped a ball on our 10 yard line, gift wrapping the gators a touchdown and Miami a win. You should google it sometime, I'm sure it's in one of the old history books.
Too many posters around here believe that they’re more knowledgeable than the CIS masses if they can **** on a kid, label him a jag, or say he has no place in a Miami uniform. Pope was spotty, but he showed improvement — in his punt returns and his on-field play. Hopefully as these kids build more confidence as the team wins and they see teammates around them doing better that they will also rise to the occasion to establish a new level. The way y’all hate on pope everyday is getting ridiculous. Support the kid... with that being said if not pope at punt return for me I’ll like knighton, Marcus Clarke or restrepo there
