Knighton

We had quite a few discussions/arguments here during the off season where people blamed Lashlee’s offense for our poor running production but the numbers clearly showed that the running game was decent prior to Harris and Chaney being lost for the season. Once they had to rely solely on Knighton, they could no longer run the ball at all. @bshaw28 even provided photographic evidence that backed up the statistics but people here just didn’t want to believe it.

Maybe he’s the kind of running back that can be really effective when given huge creases on every carry but what running back isn’t? If you watch Henry Parrish consistently turn poorly blocked run plays into 4 or 5 yard gains, you see the difference between a guy with vision and patience and a guy who just takes the ball and runs right into the defender.

You make 2 important points I think it's been hard for fans to see.

Knighton can definitely be effective when given a crease he can run straight through because his speed is special. But he's just a straight line speed guy and not a shifty/change of direction guy. As you point out, you can see that difference when comparing Knighton vs Parrish. People will point to Knighton's UNC play - but that's 1 play in 300 touches, and was a unique/hard to recreate play.

In the end - there's a lot of things in Knighton's game that made him successful in HS that just didn't translate to college, and he didn't make the adjustment. It happens all the time. I still wish he would stay, but if he transfers I think an upper tier G5 school is his best bet. I wish him luck.

I mean nobody is shining under this staff…. Maybe some OL have improved but outside of that, everyone is worse.
I totally Agree bro. On paper the staff looks good. But I'm reality they suck. These players have gotten worser. Nobody can debate that.

Salute to Knighton for overcoming adversity and Coach Mario for knowing what buttons to press to get the best out of these players. 💯
Absolutely, we all have a choice and obviously in previous post I was supportive of Roosters because his choice have caused failure.
Finally he saw the bottom closing in and pulled up.
Now he can continue to pull up and help his team which in turn will make him shine.

Finally he wakes up 🙌

Knighton is a tough kid that plays hard. Football appears to be important to him, Can't change his DNA, he is slight in build and not a between the tackles back that we watch all day across the country. he is a good weapon though and i hope he stays and works on his ball security. I was never a Mario fan, just like Im not a fan of any coach but his biggest job is to recruit the good players on the current roster as much as it is to recruit HS kids. Should have been his job #1 when he took the job. Now his biggest job is to recruit TVD to stay.
