Kirk Olivadotti - DC

Jokingly, if his last name were Williams or Smith, I'd be less skeptical. For any of you growing up a Phins fan under the reign of terror that was Tom (his dad), you'd understand the natural caution.

More seriously, does anyone have a single bit of evidence as to what kind of philosophy the son would run?

Washington hasn't exactly lit it up defensively. They allow the 4th most yards/player in the NFL.

I grew up a Fins fan during that time, and I hated his defense, but I also know he was a good DC for Miami (the U) before he went to the Dolphins. Also know, (as I know you know too) that we're talking about his son.

That Phins prevent defense that his dad was just a nightmare. That said i know nothing of his son and he was smart he would scrap most of his dads defensive scheme

Sorry, I don't recall Tom O. As being regarded as horrendous when he was with the Canes. We had some awesome defenses under him not only during the 83 championship year but also during the formative Jim Kelly and yes Mark Richt years and they were far from a bend don't break defense. Think Jim Burt, Lester Williams, Bob Nelsom, Fred Marion and the list goes on. They were aggressive and knocked teams on their rear ends. Tom was a candidate to succeed Schenells but then we had an AD who knew how to hire HC's and hired Johnson.

Good post. The name Olivadotti alone will still rankle feathers in South Florida (among Dolphin fans) but Kirk's name should definitely be on our radar if we're trying to guess Richt's next move.

Also, wasn't dad the coach the players wanted instead of JJ? Wasn't there a coaches rebellion against JJ or something that 1st year?

yes

I'm a Redskins Fan and this guy is supposedly an amazing LB Coach. Players love him!

Of course that doesn't mean he'd be a good DC. And if his philosophy is bend don't break keep him far away.

But he is a really really good coach and all Redskins fans, players and media member were ecstatic when he was kept after they cleaned the house 2 years ago.

Yes... When the Redskins fired everyone with the exception of Olivadotti on the defensive side of the ball is an indicator

Not trying to say anything about this Olivadotti, but when folks down here hear that name and they remember his dad, they cringe. His dad was just awful with the dolphins. But hey, he had a good career overall. Hopefully the son does well.

Sounds like 2001, except we were stuck with Laaaaaaaarry

Tom Olividotti single handily cost the Dolphins at least 2 titles in the 80's. He was terrible. Worst than Onofrio

I don't want anyone with Olividotti DNA at Miami

Yes.., I brought his name up many times

He is Tom's son

JC

Tom is probably as hated down here as much as Golden and Onofrio if you're also a Dolphin's fan.

Yep.
Tom Olivadotti was as popular as Fidel Castro and D'Onofrio back in the 1980s when he was the Fins' DC.
In fairness to Olivadotti, the Fins' defensive personnel was old and not very talented

Nah, poor drafting cost the Fins.
The Fins were never the same after Bobby Beathard left the franchise to take over the Redskins.

Even more disturbing are the drooling imbeciles who want nothing to do with Kirk Olivadotti because they hate his dad for being ****** with the Dolphins in the 80s.
