King

True, but that said, whenever we do run that RPO slant play, King puts it right on the money, and.......Harley drops it.
Correct.

Its not the throw it’s the reading of a pull, handoff or throw. Even with zone reads he’s just guessing , he rarely makes the right choice. If he can’t do it at a decent rate kill it from the playbook.

But as I’ve said before “ this isn’t a King problem , it’s an everything problem“.

It’s like me picking the green peppers out of my fajita quesadilla because they give me heartburn. Sure, the players aren’t making plays at times but to continually call O plays that obviously don’t work is insane.

I agree he hasn’t been the same since the injury, but that’s only in the run game. He lost a step and some athleticism, although he is still very good and elusive as a runner.

If you really want to see where things started to go south, it was the Clemson game. Idk why no DC before Brent V didn’t figure it out, but once Clemson exposed his flaws as a downfield passer, it was over.

I watched Mel Tucker’s post-game presser presser. He said the game plan was to make King a pocket passer. I haven’t watched the replay yet, but I think they were just firing the read defender to the mesh point every time and King didn’t process it quickly enough to beat them with a quick slant or by keeping it and running wide.

They had the flats covered too. Those roll out flood plays to the TE and the WR screens are getting blown up regularly. Without the threat of a deep ball, there is no reason to respect them. I watched about 10 different QBs yesterday drop dimes 60 yards downfield.. unfortunately Howell is the first one that comes to mind. This is an area we severely lack in and why I would bench king (or at least go to a 2 QB system).

On the other hand, we did get to see what a Lashlee offense could look like. I don’t get the hate for him yesterday - I thought that was the best game he called all year. Yeah, he probably should’ve got the ground game going more, and I wouldn’t have so many designed runs for King, but otherwise guys were open and King was in a groove. Take away the drops and We win this game going away.

2 random thoughts: (i) King mechanics as a QB are laughable. He does not look natural throwing the ball. (ii) Had chaney not gotten hurt last week, I think this was the week he was going to take over as the bell cow. Lashlee clearly sees Harris isn’t good. That sucks for Don.

#1 for a QB...PROTECT THE BALL. More difficult if said QB is hurt. It's not happening and if he's not benched Caned should consider going to a 2 QB system.

Me? I'm thinking not about King but about what I see as a more fundamental issue/question. When was the last time we had a QB that actually developed at the U? Who started as a lump of clay and became a legitimate QB? And I can't think of a one since Fancy. What s despicable testament to what was once QB U.

King should be shut down at least for a few weeks to try and get back to being healthy. I respect King for coming back and trying to have a big year but it just isn't working.

I appreciate the effort King gives, and his team isn’t giving him a lot of help with the OL inconsistency and drops, but he has got to protect the ball better.

His fumble early stopped a good offensive drive, and kept points off the board.

His INT before half was a terrible forced pass. His INT late helped them
Pile on easy points.

He has 7 turnovers in 3 games. That is waaaaay too many, you can’t win like that.

Also his QB rating his first 3 games are the 3 worst MINUS the Clemson game last year of his Miami career.

Looks awful for this program, no matter what the kid wanted to do, to not shut it down entirely. To think that he played with the shoulder injury is criminal. If the PCL part is true, we do not deserve nice things. Cager’s comment wouldn’t even come close to pointing out the issues with this entire program. How do they treat the players in the sports that don’t make the school money?
