I think those drills in particular are more mechanical drills than throwing drills.I wonder what the thought process is in teaching QBs to hold the ball for so long like that. Seems like it's developing bad habits because, in today's game, no one has that sort of time to hold the ball and MC Hammer around the pocket like that.
They're teaching, footwork & eye discipline coming off your first read, how to hold the ball in the pocket while shuffling your feet & keeping your eyes downfield. Lots of QB's tend to drop their eyes under pressure or even worse drop the ball below shoulder length which makes them susceptible to being stripped sacked, so those drills just focus on proper ball security, keeping your eyes scanning the field & making sure you feet stay square in your drop back.
In the throwing the drills they were working on they would throw it much faster, those other drills weren't specifically for passing.
