Kicker

Watch the stupid kicker cost us a couple games.
Would be so miserable it would almost be funny.

Horrendous offense in 2022, mid-tier on both sides in 2023, horrendous defense and a generational offense in 2024, and then probably have a top 25 offense and top 20 defense in 2025 and then lose games because of STs.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. It was always a marathon.

I said this before and I'll say again, I really hope some of you live your lives like you post.

Cot dammit man!!!

Let the man work his team

Carter Davis beat him out. Our prior special teams guy Marwan Maalouf signed Murray, so when he struggled this spring he didn’t have a champion in the building.
Any chance on Gramatica and his younger brother in the 26 class?

They better bring in another guy to compete with Carter, it’s a lot different when the lights come on or a hamstring pull away from being really in the weeds

A solid showing over 15 practices against a freshman doesn’t erase a 4-for-11 performance in live kicking. Bubba Baxa was the same story, great in controlled camp environments, but it all fell apart when the lights came on. We should also seriously consider bringing in another punter or stop forcing a rugby-style punter into a two-step technique when they clearly can’t do it.

Our special teams analyst has no business coaching at this level, let alone making key decisions. The entire special teams unit was carried by Borregales’s placekicking and the offense keeping us from punting.

Punt, punt return, kickoff, and kickoff return were all dog ****.

Great post but isn't it ST Analyst not GA? Everyone can coach now so a hire shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe Abram Murray had a rough camp we weren’t privy to it, but at least the staff is getting ahead of the situation now.

I just hope they’re not planning to replace him with the kickoff specialist from FAU. I’ve seen his film working with Coach Tony, who’s great, but looking at his overall body of work, he’s a career 36% placekicker.

No matter how good he looked in the spring camp, that’s not something you gamble on in Year 4.

My 0.02 as a college specialist.
Coach Tony my guy!

The Baxa comparisons aren’t valid. He was actually solid, if not special as a freshman 45/46 XP and 9/12 field goals. He just fell apart the next season. 5/10 field goals and 15/17 XP.

Jose Borregales was a decent kicker at FIU (77% career field goal percentage) but his senior season at Miami he made a huge jump to 91%. So you never know how a kicker is going to adjust to a new environment.

Jose Borregales was 50 of 65 in Field Goals at FIU before coming to Miami. 4 out of 11 is bad, but at what distance was he missing at 50+?

He's a guy with a strong leg but there's probably a reason FAU only used him on kickoffs and long kicks.

Last year:
40-49: 0-4
from 50+: 2-3

Career: (21-24)
1-19: 0-0
20-39: 0-0
40-49: 1-6
50+: 2-3

In 2023, starting K Morgan Suarez got hurt in the summer and missed the season.

FAU let Carter kick XP and attempt a few FG at the beginning of the season. Eventually, their punter took over kicking duties and FAU went for it on 4th down 34 times.

Banking on Carter is easily one of Mario's riskiest and most questionable roster decisions.
