Yeah, I was greatly underwhelmed by Steele this past year. I know a lot of people don't want Strong to become the full DC, but in the absence of a DC homerun hire, I'd actually like to see what Strong could do for us in that position. Having said that, I'd be cool with bringing in a D superstar if there's one available.

I liked the Steele hire initially, because I thought we would see a lot of what he did at Auburn & LSU.

But we really didn’t run too much of any of that & it seemed like the Defensive play calling was pretty much on autopilot for most of the year...

Agreed but he didn't have near what he had to work with at Auburn and LSU on that side of the ball last year. I mean that D was f ing putrid outside of a few key ballers.

I guess that begs the question do we have any Coaches on this staff that can elevate the play of their unit based on their teaching methodology or can this team not walk & chew bubble gum until there’s 50+ 5-stars by year 5 or 6?

How do teams with lesser talent somehow manage to produce better results on an annual basis?

Partly because the ones with lesser talent who succeed are A+ in terms of wanting to play football, which includes the work before and after the game that needs to be done.

Seemed like the entire program was on auto-pilot. I thought we were tanking for draft capital…

I believe the stats show the defense was marginally improved from where it was in 2021. I think he should probably be gone if an upgrade is reasonable, but you can at least make an argument for him coming back based on how bad the talent level was.
 
not trippin’ on Steele. he’s shown he can put a solid product in the field multiple years. nothing he hasn’t already seen. philosophy isn’t as aggressive as i’d like but i knew that coming in. plus he handled the media and fan base far better than ya boy Gattis.
