Let’s go back to the plan of hiring elite OC and DC because Mario needs that to work the talent he recruits because coaching really isn’t his strength …

No excuse ever for MTSU but didn’t the offense have 3 turnovers in the first quarter? Pretty sure it was 2 picks in the first few plays at least. Normal teams with real offenses jump up 7-0 or 14-0 on teams like that and games go differently. But still, at the end of the day, the defense wasn’t good at all overall. That’s on everyone on that side, including Steele.

There were so many blown coverages, the tackling still wasn’t very good, the 30 counters against fsu, Johns had him in a blender, etc. He wasn’t horrible, but the position could definitely be upgraded.

There were some things they did well on defense but the first half of the year they just gave up too many huge pass plays and by the last few games, they had just given up on the season. The pass rush was pretty solid especially since they didn’t blitz a ton. My main gripes are the multiple mental breakdowns we’d have every week and the weird fronts we’d play. The amount of double 3 tech tackle fronts we used was head scratching, especially while we were getting run all over.
