Well ****. Glad we had some positive news recently. Today's depressing as ****. Such a need position.

When has Miami recruited DT well? Why do you think it would all of the sudden change this year with a first year DT coach and a second year D-line coach?

Miami has to develop and put some guys in the league for ppl to trust bringing those talent to a coral gables and DT is the 2nd most premier position with limited supply so it’s always going to be tough.

**** I fully understand it's my own expectations and hope.

I'm not knocking what Miami has done. More my own understanding they needed a win with one of the whales. It doesn't look like that will happen now. Can that change? Sure. **** I expect them to probably recruit harder. Sometimes it's smart work that wins.

Justin scott
Artavius Jones
Armando Blount (arguably a d-end).

That was pretty good DT recruiting. Now, we need to continue at that level annually, which we have not, but let’s not act like Mario has NEVER recruited the position well.

Blount is a DE. Will Jones ever see the field? Just cause he was a 4 star doesn’t mean it’s recruiting well.

Scott is the only DT brought in over 3 classes. That’s not going to cut it.

Every time D $ has talked about the DT room he has said Jones will be the 4th DT in the rotation so yes, he will play and play a lot.

Also this defense play two 4i’s, the one to the boundary players like a DT and Blount will play that position. Go watch any clip from Minnesota defense, you will see the 3 down lineman and 1 stand up rusher. That down lineman next to the stand up rusher is where Blount will play so in this defensive scheme he is in fact a DT.

I'd be interested to know how many DTs they target each year, or for the roster as a whole. I've always believed it's such a physically grueling position, wrought with injury, that if possible you play a rotation of four dudes--no defined starters. Considering injuries, that means you probably need six guys who can play on your roster. Plus, for whatever reason, DTs can often be head cases and don't work out as planned. Roll all that up and I'd like to see them taking 3-4 every year.

Depth wise any elite team would flog our ***.

The same energy recruiting OL is needed for DL. That does not seem to be so right now

That energy is there but Miami is fighting the big boys and at a position they have no players or development they can sell. They are doing the best with what they got.

This is all part of the game. Outside of QB, DT are the most coveted position. You don’t just land the top guys without a proven track record.
