I know this is a moot point, because he's not giving up play-calling duties and he's not firing his son or Thomas Brown, but I've been screaming for Kendal Briles for 2 years now and this kid is absolutely tearing it up at Houston, just like many of us knew he would.

He's only making $400k a year, and he's only signed thru next year. He could EASILY be had if this program is serious about playing offensive football.

In Year 1 at Houston, Briles has that offense:

#4 in America in YPG (553 a game)
#7 in YPP (7.18)
#3 in scoring offense (48.3 PPG)

They've scored 41+ points in every single game this year.

Yes, his father is Satan reincarnated. Yes, he may/may not have had something to do with that awful Baylor culture. But Richt is/will be still running the show. I seriously doubt hiring this dude will drive the program into the pits of **** like Baylor was. He is a **** offensive genius, and he's cheap as ****. 400k a year!! Of course Miami doesn't disclose salary information, but I'd be willing to bet that's not much more than Fredo Richt is making. And it's probably half of what Thomas Brown is making.

It's time for Richt to swallow his pride, get his kid another making coffee job in the NFL, and bring Briles in to be Co-OC with Brown and to call plays.

Sounds good to me, now how do we get him here? Fly the banner? lol

Dude I got ripped apart for saying that but Golden’s offense didn’t look as bad as Ours

I have to agree with you. Last nights game was absolutely a horribly called game. Golden had a better QB too. Richt gotta get off his *** and earn that 4 million. That's crazy money for someone who doesn't have a div 1 starting QB.

Yes cause the ad at Georgia had balls

What titles did Richt win with the coaches forced on him?

Disclaimer: is is not a pro-Richt reply. I just laugh at the scenarios where not only is Richt forced to hire a specific OC, but the Richt and the OC are told they have to keep certain position coaches.

Him plus manny...... just wow..... imagine manny playing ahead with a big lead

I’d look to see where guys have had continued success vs Power 5 defenses and not necessarily against the big 12. There are many spread attacks that put up video game numbers but can’t against avg. to good teams. It’s not just flipping a switch.

Still better than the sht cmr runs

His offenses were average much better than this ish. His issue was defense.

How do we go from the worst defensive mind to the worst offensive mind back to back it’s gotta be a first in cfb

Been asking for Briles since first few FAU games last season. Guy is the goods bro. Look at how amazing his crazy *** Dad had Baylor scoring like 70 points per game...let me repeat...at Baylor...which was basically one of the worst football programs for decades.
Kendal Briles would own the ACC with the horses we have. And when the South Florida kids see all those ways to score and highlight their strengths, recruiting is top 3 in nation every year.
Manny aggressive D killing and the state of Miami returns...
Get it done Blake...like yesterday

Briles is the guy i was screaming for. He killed it at FAU. As soon as he leaves, they start sucking. Goes to Houston and immediately turns their offense into one of the best in the country.

He would absolutely destroy people here. We’d go from garbage to a top 5 offense overnight.

Yup.

Year 1...right out of the gate they're top 7ish in the country in basically every category.

And this is with having Mark D'Onofretard as your colleague.

The Houston defense is 55th in the country in defensive YPP (117th in YPG, by the way). Houston has possibly the #1 overall pick in the draft next year in the middle of their defense, by the way. And they stink on defense even with their offense just rolling everyone they play.

Imagine this guy with Manny Diaz?????

I find it very sad and depressing that a young OC with great results at 2 different mid major programs isn’t a realistic option for the Univeristy of Miami..

It’s frustrating because it won’t happen for the reasons you listed but double frustrating because it’s very realistic.
It’s not some wish list guy that is impossible to get.
He is very much attainable.

This should be a situation where James tells Richt directly that as the AD he is calling Art Briles because it's important for the future of the program and you won't find a better coach who is so underpaid relative to performance if you look for the next twenty years. Richt doesn't have to give up the OC title if he is that hung up on it, but Briles can be the offensive QC consultant like Sarkesian at Bama. Pay him 800k and Miami earns that back in one night by getting a primetime slot as "must watch" football instead of a noon game that no one cares about.

100% agree with needing an OC. There's a few positions that need to be reevaluated.

This is why the Patke hire was such bullsht. We now have 2 coaches coaching 3 linebacker positions.

We needed an offensive coordinator. We got Patke.

Our special teams have been one of the worst units IN THE NATION since last season. We needed a special teams coach. We got Patke.

Our O-line is a disaster. Searels is responsible for recruiting, coaching & naming FIVE STARTERS. Maybe a full-time offensive coordinator could've split the job with Searels (since QB coach is off limits) & coached tackles or interior linemen. But we got Patke.

Its not even a knock on Patke. Its just another example of Richt needing to do one thing with his staff & doing the opposite.

Jon needs to be relieved of his coaching duties. He wanted his son to get his foot in the door. I get that. Mission accomplished. QB coach is on his resume. Richt doesn't have to fire him. He just needs to move him away from QB coach.

100% agree. But who is Richt gonna get rid of to make room for him?
What bothers the **** out of me is that he would have to get rid of someone to bring in an offensive coordinator like Briles, and Thomas Brown would obviously lose his offensive coordinator title. Meanwhile Jon would see no change. One of our best all around coaches would be stripped of his title. Another coach would lose his job. But Jon would be unphased.
