Kelvin Harris podcast featuring Manny Navarro

Seems to me Harris understands how hard it is to run an offense with 2 true freshman starters and a 1st year starting center that is a RS SO. Donaldson is the only starter that should be out there. I honestly think Diaz and Enos are planning for the future with the current line. People want to talk about scheming around deficiencies but don't want to admit that requires intelligence from your line. A young, physically immature line is also a mentally immature line.

If there are any line gurus out there that can take the time to explain to me, and the board, how you can make up for a physically immature line by simplifying your o line protections so they don't have to make as many calls, please enlighten us. It doesn't really seem possible to me. The obvious way to make up for talent deficiencies is to play smarter but, we simply can't do that with our very young o line. We have repeatedly seen our young guys blowing assignments or looking slow on tape, maybe thinking too much? Possibly because Enos is doing all he can to try and make it easier for them. I know there's been some film of some pass protection pulls that weren't ideally designed and some playcalling that seems to ignore the fact we have trouble protecting (PA from under center) but I feel for the most part the o line scheme has been decent.

I believe Harris understands this having played the position at the highest levels and therefore feels like we aren't suffering from inept coaches as much as extreme youth.
Great post and I would add in the fact that we’re on our third different system in like 4 years. Each system recruited a different type of player and taught different techniques for each scheme. You almost have to start young because you have some guys brought in to be big run blockers for Richt but now you want athletic pass block guys.

OL is the one position where you really time and consistency to be effective. So our issues are not just youth, but chemistry and game experience in the same scheme.

That’s why Wisconsin can be so productive, they’ve got guys that have waited behind experience players and developed in the same system for years. Our players are not bad but we’re still trying figure out who can fit where and attempt to build some type of continuity.

great post. Add to this the fact that most of the guys (not the freshmen) have been told for a year or two how bad they were. From numerous accounts, that was Searles method - blame. That's not so easy to forget and I would imagine they doubt themselves. I think even Butch Barry mentioned having to rebuild confidence first . The OL is a work in progress - stinks for Jarren, who is also learning.

Oh, and Manny Navarro expects Donaldson to leave for the draft after this season.

Harris thinks he stays and my guess is Harris speaks with Donaldson and would have a better read on situation.

Manny mentioned NDs families qualify of life and wants to help fam out

Hes not going to help anyone out as an undrafted free agent. That’s the bullshyt mindset these morons need to be disabused of. “I’m gonna feed my whole extended family on Uber money after I get cut!”

Not even close to ‘in a nutshell’ but I’ll take the word of a 3X National Champion Cane and NFL Vet over... porsters.

This is the dumbest take of all. What somebody has done in their life doesn’t make them any smarter than anybody else.

Right. You don't need to be a proctologist to recognize an ******* when you see one.

He only deals with the experts. I’m sure he has Michael Avenatti on retainer, let’s Bernie handle his finances and gets his physicals from Larry Nasser

Very popular fallacies among internet sports types. My personal favorite is when a fan's draft evaluations are dismissed as "the GM knows better than you" when most GMs draft about as well as a monkey pulling names out of a hat.

It’s popular among any position of power. If the last 3 years have taught us anything, it’s that just bc you get hired to one of those positions or get elected to them doesn’t mean you know anything. A tv star got elected President and socialist bartender got elected to Congress. The position you hold is almost always oversold when it comes to arguments

Some of these dopes worship former players like they’re deities. I appreciate what they contributed to my alma mater, but, when it comes to discussion of the program and its myriad of problems, they’re just dudes with opinions like the rest of us.

I’m not going to anoint one guy’s opinion on Shanny and his staff over another’s just because one played at UM 30 years ago. That’s like saying Trump should be able to make all the decisions on who should be elected in the future because he was President.
