You would think Nike would be lobbying/bribing the Oregon state govt to get this done there. Imagine the endorsement contracts they could dole out for UOregon players, and the talent it would attract?

How would this affect Title IX? Since the players aren’t being paid by the university but by a small business or corporation, that wouldn’t fall under Title IX, right?

Just off the top of my head, the top programs benefiting from this list would be...

USCw, UCLA, Stanford
FSU, UF, Miami (also the other schools...)
Penn State, Pitt
Ohio State (and others)
Rutgers
USCe, Clemson

Right, California measure is totally separate from university responsibility under Title IX. Just makes it illegal for university to punish the athlete for merchandising themselves. I'm not familiar with all the rest though, and have heard there are some differences. I believe there is a federal measure that has been introduced (by former Ohio State receiver Anthony Gonzalez) that would accomplish the same thing across the nation.

Imagine if this law isn't passed in super conservative SEC states by the time some of these go into effect. "Sure, you can play for Bama but... don't you wanna get PAID?"

Those states will pass the same law as fast as you can blink. All those states care about is football from top to bottom.

Just to clarify...

The way to "legally" pay recruits to come to your school, is to have a booster network or local businesses straight up sign them? Come to Miami, get this endorsement contract, go to Florida get that endorsement contract? Just want to clarify if that's how the game will go?

Anyone know who has the largest funding behind them in Cali?

Oh for sure! Just a thought experiment. Honestly, a federal law will probably knock this all out at once before any state starts individually.

I'm not sure how anything resembling college football as we know it can survive. It's over. Good thing it wasnt blown up while Miami was on top

I thought this whole thing actually started in the US House of Representatives with a bipartisan effort between a Republican from North Carolina and a Democrat from Louisiana.
