Kc McDermott and Quan? STAFF

I think the cut-off for medical redshirt is no more than 25% of regular season games, which means no more than 4 games. He got hurt in the 5th game, so I'd assume he won't qualify.
Then again who knows with the NCAA. They do some shady **** when it comes to eligibility sometimes. He didn't play much the first few games, so hopefully the fact that he only started 1 or 2 games helps us.
 
There was a list that came out and it had 16 players were redshirting, KC and Quan were both on it!
 
mcdermott might be able to get one....as dude plys ol and doesnt really log stats...so they should be able to fudge a game or tweo that he didnt play.

This is why I asked this question to many people with mix answers. I would think KC could get a Medical RS because if the rule you said is 25 percent he hasn't played 25 percent of the season. Depends on how the rule which seems to be gray to me
 
It's no more than 30% of the contests.

Edit, both got hurt in the Duke game. Gadbois played every game until then and McDermott missed the UL game. Technically, both do not qualify for the medical RS.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe he played any snaps against Louisville.
 
Does the NCAA count games by the number of snaps played? I always wondered how they determined by games. Or is it simply if they step on the field and get a snap, that is a game played.
 
McDermott and Gadbois may not meet letter-of-law criteria, but both could likely appeal down the road if so desire.

McDermott did not, but it's irrelevant because he played in the next 4 games.

If McDermott lives up to expectations it won't matter because he isn't gonna be here 5 years.
 
An extra year of eligibility can be granted via a "hardship waiver" if a student-athlete suffers an incapacitating injury or illness in the course of a season. The injury must occur during the first half of the season and the student-athlete, in Divisions I and II, must not have participated in more than two contests or 20% of the school's completed contests, whichever is greater. Conference championships/tournaments are counted as one contest or date of competition, regardless of the actual contest/dates used. To meet the first-half-of-the-season requirement, all competition must cease prior to the start of the contest or date of competition that begins the second half of the season. If the percentage calculation for the 20-percent rule results in a decimal -- any decimal -- the whole number preceding it is always rounded up.

According to UM's Game Notes, KC McDermott played four out of the first 5 games (FAMU, ASU, NEB, and DU). McDermott meets the the first-half-of-the-season requirement but he fails to meet the 20-percent rule. To have qualified under the 20-percent rule, he couldn't have play more than 3 games.
