My buddy was a pretty high level baseball recruit in high school. Went to a national showcase. As he was warming up to hit (probably 3-4 down the line) A helicopter landed on the adjacent field. The kid pitching at the time was 88-92 and my buddy was feeling good. He was the first to face the helicopter kid. Took 2 fastballs at 98 that he said he heard but didnt see well then gave up on a breaking ball that dropped right in....Rick Ankiel was the one who got out of the helicopter. He faced a few future Major leaguers but he still says that Ankiel was by far the best he saw.
Rick was talented. It just shows how crazy of a mind **** baseball is and how hard of a game it is.

Jon Lester
Yep. Another one. He couldn’t pick people
Off because he had the yips throwing to first.

If he were a right handed, he likely wouldn’t have lasted as long but he was an amazing pitcher.

Ankiel was also a UM commit at one point.

Didn't Steve Sax (Dodgers 2B) also have the yips throwing to first?
Similar with Dale Murphy as catcher in the Braves' minor leagues.

My favorite player of all-time, Dale Murphy, had the weirdest case of the yips. Stud catcher one day then woke up and literally couldn’t throw the ball to second base. Dude was hitting the mound.

He was hitting bombs in the minors but also hitting his pitchers as a catcher, trying to throw out base runners stealing 2b, when his coaches decided to move him from catcher before he killed a teammate.

Steve Carton holds the record for most pickoffs ever. 144 in his career since the stat started being kept in 1957. When I was very young that Phillies team was my favorite with Schmidt being my favorite player. I have no ties to the NE muchless Philly. I became a fan from Mike Schmidt alone. Great team!
That was my team growing up outside of Philly for my 1st 10 years of life. Greg “the Bull” Luzinski, Larry Bowa, Gary Maddox, Mike Schmitt, Bob Boone, Steve Carlton and my favorite Bake McBride. I thought that dudes Afro hanging out from his batting helmet was soooo cool. Now that just proves I am old.
