Kane Taylor

Unless he grades out Day 1 by the draft consultant, Willis would be foolish to leave early with Kool here now. But Fines has to be on a short leash. So I could see us being open to taking 3 if the third is high upside, then a little push by the staff so that Fines moves on.

Currently Miami has 5 DT's on the roster with 1 more arriving this summer.

Ryan Fines - R-Fr
Gerald Willis - R-Soph
Courtel Jenkins - JR
Kendrick Norton - Soph
Anthony Moten - Junior

with Richard McIntosh - Soph possibly sliding over to DT as well depending on his development.

Most teams 4-3 teams carry 8-10 DT's when they are allowed the 85 man roster. So Miami is 3 short of the minimum, remember Diaz's scheme calls for heavy dline rotation to keep them fresh.

Ryan Fines is not built for the scheme Diaz runs so he may be on borrowed time until next spring. I would think Miami will bring in 2 more athletic DT's (or in this case SDE's that can slide inside to DT). Gerald Willis is draft eligible after this season so with a good year expect him to try an jump to the NFL.

So depending on how the season goes UM could be looking to fill a lot of interior dline spots.

Go Canes
Pretty sure Pat Bethel will end up a 3 tech though. There was already a rumor he was 265 Lbs

He's not known to be a beast recruiter he finds guys who have that dog in them and then teaches them up. Most of his subjects were 2 and 3 star guys

This.... He is the best coach in college football at his position. He is not an elite recruiter like a guy like Ed Oregeron but he is the best coach

he's the lead recruiter for IMG for a reason, I think you guys are severely under selling him

DT is the position where you make the playoffs and compete for titles. but everyone here wants to talk about 2019 WRs all day.

4-3 teams usually carry 6-7 DT's on their team. The staff is only trying to take 3 D-linemen. We have 6 on the roster right now without Jon Ford and none are seniors. Can everybody STFU about the DT's, they're only looking to take one get over yourselves

no, you STFU.

There is a difference between quantity and quality. on paper, we may have the same amount of DTs as an LSU for example, but they have difference makers whereas we have 'guys'. you don't know what you're talking about at all.

Do we really have the same # DTs as LSU,I could swear they signed 4 top 20 DTs just last year.

Oh jeez I guess I misread where the entire defensive coaching staff were raving about the D-line, coach Diaz put it out in a interview saying the same thing yesterday too. Maybe that's why they're recruiting only 3 linemen in total then...jeez but since you insist you know more than those guys I'll make sure to let them know valid is *****ing about the DT's and we need to recruit more

We took one reach DT last year.

We need 3 this year. Why does it matter how many are graduating?

Nobody needs 9 DT's on a roster. The only way we're taking 2 DT is if they boot Fines or find another stud DT they can't turn down. 14 returning DL + projected 3 incoming is over 4 deep on the line.

DL has been our biggest weakness in the last 10+ years. We need to find studs at this position every year.

Teams would kill to have guys like Gerald Willis, Kenderick Norton, Rj mcintosh, Anthony moten, courtel Jenkins as their dt group. Remember the defensive line will be attacking and we have the best dline coach in the country it's not an issue. Look at what the coaches have said. They really like our 5 man rotation at that spot..

This... We have good quality depth on the dline now we need to load up on the backend and the coaches KNOW that

Zbrod, where did you get this stat that 4-3 teams average 6-7 DTs? Sounds low to me. I would have expect 8-9 as the right number. 2 positions out of 22 on an 85-man roster means the average should be 8, all thinks being equal (~10% of scholarships for 10% of positions). Then you throw in the fact that a good chunk are busts, so you want to overload on bodies, just like with OL.

Youre overlooking the fact that SDEs will slide over to DT a decent bit in this scheme. Coaches have said theyre looking to be fast and athletic over large. So youll guys like mcintosh and chad getting a few reps there on obvious passing downs. Look at the overall # of DL in this case, which will be 14 returning + 3 incoming=17.

Wouldn't it be a hoot to land two DT's at 6'5" 295 with huge hands and run a 4.25 forty...I'm sure they could find a place on either side of the ball...
