Kaaya: "Win or lose it still felt good to get out there."

On the coaches. Brad did what he could. He was set up for failure. Not cool to rag on Brad

Guess what if you're the starting quarterback at the University of Miami and you play like ****, you're going to get criticized.

Yall were begging for him to start, be careful what you wish for.

****...even if you play well people on this board will find something to ***** about.

Kid came from the Pacific Ocean to play for Coley.

****

Would love to hear what you wanted him to say after that **** show we just witnessed.

"I'm really disappointed. I thought we moved the ball well early on. We can't go 1-13 on third down conversions & expect to win at a high level. We have to get better. I have to get better. No excuses. We simply have too many playmakers on O to lay an egg like that. I apologize to our fans... specifically Ilovelamp. Lamp, I'm sorry."

Something to the tune of this would have sufficed.

I have to give Kaaya a pass here. Clearly he's still getting use to the attention and all that comes with it. Kid is still getting comfortable doing interviews so I won't judge him by a offhand comment made in one...

Kaaya did better than his coaches. Coley calls what he likes, not what is working or what QB is best at. Brad's downfield passes from the pocket were fine. Looks like he doesn't throw well on roll outs and screens -- so that was most of what Coley called. Hit TE over middle and down field very nicely so let's not call that much. Defense gift wrapped two TDs and Coley came away with 3 points and a turnover. Oh, I am glad Coley kept Stacy close to the line of scrimmage -- wouldn't want him running wild downfield.

One more think, all the Gus lovers, and I was one at first, please shut up. Guy cannot pick up short yardage and is no RB. He needs to become TE or something.

Sure would have been nice to have Dallas Crawford back there instead of Gus when we had the ball inside the 5

No pass for him.

Especially to a wide open Coley, wide open Dorsett and a bunch of other short arm throws.

Coach Coley did him and all of us an insulting disservice with his play calling and personnel use last night.

That was most comfortable I've felt about a Hurricane QB in a while we will win a lot of games with Kaaya at QB...........his turnovers weren't bonehead turnovers

For those bashing the kid, try to remember Bernie Kosars first start. Try to remember Ken Dorseys first big game on the road. Kaaya made mistakes, but he was not terrible. The play calling, on the other hand, was terrible.

I will agree our play calling overall was bad but let's be honest about a few things.

1) The pass to Coley behind the line of scrimmage on our their 8 or so was a terrible pass. Period. That has to be thrown on a rope and right to his numbers. Instead he short arms it.
2) After the 1st hit he took, he looked shook to me. To me he constantly did not step into any throws until our last drive of the night when all the pressure was gone because UL was playing way back to not give up a big play.
3) He was awful at understanding where pressure was coming from. To be fair, I have no idea if he has freedom to call an audible but overall was not aware of coverages.
4) Back to point 2, but constantly had happy feet. He was being called out be the announcers for this and it was true.
5) I do hate hearing this comment from him. I understand an 18 year old kid saying the "wrong" thing but I wish it would have shown more desire to be better.

I'm going on what he did last night and not what he "might" do because truly none of us know. Big difference with high school compared to college. It will be up to him how he responds, will he bounce back or will he continue to make the same mistakes?

Good point.

I blame Coley for the lateral fumble play. Yes it was a bad throw, but it hit Coley -- our #1 potential All-American WR -- in the hands AND he had a chance to dive on it. The star receiver absolutely has to bail out the youngin'. No way Berrios or Waters drops that ball.

The first interception was a bad throw but not a bad decision. If I'm not mistaken, I believe this was another one of Coley's genius "when we roll our righthanded quarterbacks out we always have to roll them out to the left side of the field so they have to throw across their body while on the move" plays. A very hard throw to make.

The second interception was obviously forced but there were 10 seconds left -- had to force something.

I'd rather have correctable, tangible mistakes (bad throws, bad hands) than intangible mental mistakes/bad decisions.

All in all, I'm comfortable with Kaaya's performance. He made some nice throws to Walford (can we please throw it to him more?), Berrios (Kaaya to Berrios for three years is gonna be good), and Duke (wtf with that call?), he checked down to receivers which is something we haven't seen in years, and he stood in there and took a beating which didn't seem to phase him above and beyond however phased he was to begin with given the circumstances. He looked very confident in the pocket once the game was over and the pressure was off (and UL's defense stopped playing, of course). If we can get that Kaaya every game day we'll be in good hands.

Excited to see how he rebounds and progresses especially considering all the reports about him being a 24/7 football/film junkie, but Coley needs to open up the playbook and not pamper this kid.

It is good that he has put the game behind him. to be great you have to have a short memory.

The good thing about playing this past Monday is that it's only 4 more days till we get to take some anger out on FA&M - hopefully...

It hit Coley in the hands about 1 inch from the ground. I cannot disagree more with ur 1st statement. I don't care if your a true freshman or not, you have to make that throw.

People need to calm down. Kaaya is our QB, now and in the future. Coley's play calling was almost as bad as our offensive line. Just feel bad for Duke, James Coley just playing so soft with these screens, allowing 9 men in the box on every play. PLAY ACTION is the key to get pressure off a young QB with a suspect OLine.

We tried play action numerous times and it did not work. How is Kaaya not to blame for the terrible pass to Coley and the INT which was floated almost like a punt? The staff tried giving him chances but he had happy feet and would not release the ball. The OL did play terrible but some of that is on Kaaya as well. Dorsett was wide open on a potential TD and Kaaya would not let go of the ball. Seriously go back and watch he had happy feet all night.

To be fair, this was a difficult spot for Kaaya. I said this all along, Williams was the perfect QB for us this year as we needed a guy that could get the ball to our playmakers. We didn't need someone that could only throw a deep pass but someone that knows how to play QB. Kaaya should have been RS but we had to put him in and he clearly was not ready.

Last I'm not saying he won't do it because it's not fair to only judge him based on 1 game but on the other hand he played and I have to judge that.

Three first and ten quick screens to start the game? We have DUKE ****** JOHNSON!! What kind of confidence wave did that put Kaaya on? Watching those three screens get snuffed out immediately.

He looked far more polished throwing the ball inside to berrios and walford. When his first pass is to the flats and he has no other reads to make it was like he was unsure of the play call and didn't have the same zip as it did to berrios and walford. His passes to those two were excellent. Coley's play calling was embarrasing, rolling Kaaya out to the left on 3rd and long? WTF was I watching??

And his answer was a reflection of what the team described him as. Unfazed and always level headed. For a true freshman, he certainly didn't appear to fall apart. He isn't gonna be the type to act like we are doing great when we win, or the world is falling when we lose.

He didn't look like Morris out there laughing on the sideline while we were losing, and he didn't look like Jacory over by himself on one knee with his head down. He stood right on the side line watching the game. I'm not giving up yet. Coley failed him last night flat out, failed him.

Hate losing our first game, but I'm confident that Kaaya will get better. His response doesn't mean he lack fire it just mean he's aware that being perfect immediately is not ideal. He has what it takes to be great, was just lacking experience. Now that he got that out the way, maybe the staff can allow him to do more vs 2 scrubs before his next test Nebraska.
