Kaaya Comeback Stats

With Kaaya as the starting QB in the last 3 years:

  • 7 games Miami has been down at halftime between 0 - 8 points (one score)
  • All 7 Miami has lost by 10 or more points
  • Miami scored a TD in the 1st half in all 7 games (10 TD's Total)
  • Miami scored a TD in the 2nd half in only 3 games (4 TD's Total)
  • Miami came back to take the lead in 0 of those games

I'm not down on Kaaya as most. You can see how good he can be when he feels comfortable. He's the best QB on the roster, and gives us the best chance to win. But basically, if we're not winning at halftime, you can chalk the game up as a loss.

I had a feeling comebacks just weren't in him, but gave him the benefit of the doubt with lack of experience, Golden, Coley, etc. But now I'm convinced it's not in him. That "it" factor just isn't in his DNA. When a QB has it, you can see the confidence transfer to others players on offense. They "know" their QB can lead them to a win. I don't think our players feel that with Kaaya. I don't think he has the confidence in himself. And I don't think it can be coached - a QB either has it, or they don't.

It's not just just the pressure of the pass rush, but it's the pressure of the game situation. It's maddening because he's made some clutch throws this year - like the 4th down TD pass to Coley vs. FSU, and the 4th down pass to Coley vs. VT last night. He steps up at times, but nowhere near enough.

He doesn't have that competitive fire that others have had here. Little things like shushing his own teammates before the game against fsu to never getting animated with teammates. Maybe those upperclassmen weren't wrong about him when he was a freshman - they didn't want him as a starter bc he lacked that toughness guys wanted in a starting qb
 
I saw him against UNC TRYING to get mad.... just not that type of guy. He cant reach down and gather and channel focused rage .... next man up...
 
Im starting to see that Brad is just not that type of player where when he is down he can rally the team to a comeback win. Just doesn't have that dog in him.
 
dammit mane, even when we were up against FSU it felt like we were playing from behind, and you seen it in the defense.
 
There is a reason he is almost never given captain, he doesn't lead, not on the field, not on the sidelines, not in the locker room. As a result the team has stopped trusting him to ever lead.
 
He's always been a frontrunner. It was glaring from his freshman season. Before the Florida State game I posted that on a Dolphins forum, that everything had gone smoothly for the Canes so far so Kaaya's known weaknesses hadn't been tested yet.

One oddity this season is that all 5 interceptions have been while tied or ahead. Kaaya's completion percentage and quarterback rating have dropped while trailing, which is the norm, but for whatever reason he hasn't been mistake prone.

Bingo.

Dude mopes on the sidelines and rarely talks to anyone outside of Richt and the backup QBs.

Not a leader. Not a winner.

Bring up that thread where people were talking about how he's better than Ken Dorsey. Ken Dorsey had a noodle arm but he was a goddammed winner.

Exactly the same reason he's terrible at third down. His skill set is not made for obvious passing situations.

Dorsey had an incredible offensive line, a quick release, and made quick decisions......and as incredible as it sounds, he was more mobile than Kaaya.
 
Kaaya is a good QB when we either have a serious talent advantage or are down double digit points. He struggles until it's a 16-3 game then he'll have good drives to get it back to one score, then he'll struggle until it's two scores again. In the end this makes his stats look like he played decent, but he is nothing, but a stat collector. He is no winner.
