As of right now, Jarren Williams has 0 competition for 2021 and 2022. There is an argument for him to stay until then and work under the greatest QB coach in college football. Unfortunately, I've seen too many players turn tail and run at the first sign of competition, so I feel pessimistic. Man, I hope Jarren stays, because I saw a lot of potential when he took the field earlier this season.

How would he have no competition for 2021? Tate has 3 years of eligibility left.

Doctor has 3 years of eligibility left.
Doesn't Tate run into the Five years to play four rule? We are not talking about Carlos Huerta eligibility here (sarcasm)
Checked the rules. Five year clock begins when you first step on campus. He has three years max so if he is not able to play next year, he would only play for two years. Might be basis for waiver request.

Sorry, I underestimated how much eligibility Tate had left. If he's got any in 2021, then you are right.

Man for the little amount we got to see Jarren in game action. I absolutely loved it lol Knew where to go with the ball and delivered on time and accurate. He even made the correct read on a run option play for a TD 🤯

It would not surprise me if Jarren Williams beats out Tate Martell.

If Tate has to sit out 2019, then I could see that as well. However, I've never seen Tate Martell play, personally.

I think Williams stays. I just do. and he will have competition by then Miami probably adding plumlee this year and gonna get a guy in 2020 to qb room also that said I think Williams has a godo shot to be qb in 19 yes martell is good and its gonna be a heck of a battle to watch if martell gets his waiver if not I think Williams starts in 19

You guys saw a lot from Jarren during mop up duty against Savannah St. That’s what you guys are trying to say?

Perhaps its just me but Im not as high on Martell as others might be. His arm strength is subpar IMO. If he wins the starting job we will end up having a purely horizontal passing game of which I'm not a fan. (Its important to have that in the passing game but not exclusively.). Martell is smallish as well (5'-10" 185 lbs). He runs well but is not an elite runner.

I continue to think that Jaren Williams can be the QB of the future for UM, if (IF!!) Jaren has the alpha gene in him. Time will tell.

Knowing JW at the HS level, I can tell you, he was not near the level of other QBs in his class. Not talking about # of stars, 24/7 rankings, etc. Not to take anything away from Jarren, but his HS Coach is an excellent promoter (not meant to be a negative). Does Jarren have potential for us? I think so, but keeping it on the real, I am not certain he was coached up much last year or given a fair shake to compete. I am a Jarren fan, but he needs to be pushed, challenged, taught, AND given a fair shake. We shall see. Go Canes!

That's great info. Thanks for posting it.

To your point, that is the reason why I put the caveat in my post about whether or not Jaren has the alpha gene in him. My guess is that he will either rise to the occasion or wilt with the Tate Martell signing.
