I think we can and will jump Utah with 2 big wins. But that doesn’t do anything. Need at least OU or Bama to lose. BYU will lose to Texas Tech.

Which means, we’re gonna finish 11th and be the first team out.
Are we certain 11 isn’t good enough? While the CFP guy mentioned our two horrendous embarrassingly bad no good downright atrocious losses and praised ND for their beautiful 2 defeats, he said if we’re close enough in the rankings the head-to-head will matter significantly. I could have heard him wrong or misinterpreted it but that’s what it sounded like to me.

I don’t see anywhere ND can move up.

I only said 10 because the G5 champ and ACC champ will probably both be lower than that. So #10 will be the last at-large team. I don’t think we’re going to catch/pass ND, that’s a pipe dream. They’re 4 spots ahead.

Missouri is what we are rooting for
Sec was happy to have OU win last week to steal another seat at the table

I don’t think it’s such a pipe dream. ND really can’t move up. BYU will drop after losing conference championship. That puts ND in the “comparison tier.” My hope is that if we win out, we jump Utah (should have already) and jump ND with the H2H.

The thing with Bama is that they've been so artificially pumped with "ranked wins" that it covers up that fsu loss.

They'll point to wins over Tennessee, Missouri and Vandy. Three teams that have their rankings because they are in the SEC.

P.S. the "ranked win" metric needs to be shot into the moon. A win over #25 means so much, but #26 means nothing. How stupid. These committe ppl know what theyre doing to keep the SEC at the top.
Or how about wins/losses against teams based on how they FINISHED, not what they were when they were 4-0. Most of those being G5 teams and an an FCS.

Beating a bad VT and a Pitt team that just lost by 100 to ND isn’t going to be a positive to our resume. The committee stacked teams between ND and Miami so that they won’t be compared to each other and thus the head to head doesn’t come into play.

We need to jump 3 spots in 2 weeks and hope USCw and Vandy don’t pass us. It’s the longest of long shots.

The bigger question is how Miami and the ACC deal with this moving forward. First thing I do is cancel all non conference games against power conference teams. Quality wins don’t help your ranking so don’t take the chance. Gimme Savannah state Bethune cookman etc.

Are those quotes from tonight's show? Wild if so
I paraphrased a bit, but yes they asked the commissioner specifically about ND and Miami. As others pointed out he did say if we were able to make it into the same tier as ND then the head to head would matter. They are currently not comparing ND to Miami though. We have to beat the crap out of VT and Pitt basically and maybe get some help in front of us, and they will still probably find some BS excuse.

How do you jump a tier when teams like Utah get stuffed between us and ND to prevent the head to head being considered?

Why is Texas ranked above Michigan? Because transitive property matters. OU beat UMICH and UTex beat OU.

Why is USC ranked above Michigan? Because head to head matters. USC beat UMICH.

So Washington’s lost to Wisconsin —> a bad loss; keeps them unranked compared to a team they beat: Illinois. Both teams are 7-3. But Texas’ loss to UF is irrelevant when compared to fellow 7-3 team, Tenn; — Texas has one win over teams Tennessee has lost to ( not UGA/Alabama; but OFC —> OKLAHOMA). So ONCE AGAIN COMMON OPPONENTS; TRANSITIVE PROPERTY; AND HEAD TO HEAD MATTERS.

If it is bad losses that matter; then stand on your dumbass principle and put Vandy back above us being their losses are to ranked teams.

Why is ASU ranked below Tulane? Bcuz the committee is betting on Tulane to beat North Texas in the conference championship game and they’ve already beaten two p4 teams — both 5-5: Duke and Northwestern.

After what feels like forty days and forty nights of making fun of the possibility of Duke being in the ACC championship game; this is now used as the defining win to put Tulane ranked above ASU who has lost to two ranked teams — Utah/Houston — but beat Texas Tech and lost to Miss State $EC.
