Just Thinking outside the box .............

Who gives a **** where we practice? It obviously doesn't have the importance some on here thinks it does since we have been mediocre the past 6-8 years. If practicing in the SFL heat was such a big advantage we would see it as an advantage on the field.

Conditioning is conditioning. It doesn't matter where you do it.

The Championship teams did it out in the open, the new regime should stick with that tradition. Warriors are forged from dedicating themselves in adverse conditions so that they will be well prepared to do battle any and everywhere.

Really? The city would have a problem with the school building a practice facility on its own campus, if they were inclined to do so? Jesus......

I'm sure the reason we have been mediocre the last 6 years was due to a sudden inexplicable change in physics, human physiology and biology, and not having the absolute worst corch in the history of the program.

A glorified tent will NOT prevent a lightning hit on your a$$.

Ummm...yes it would. But it's not just being struck by lightning. If there is lightning within a few miles outdoor practice has to stop...or be moved inside (NCAA rule). Therefore, practice/conditioning would continue. I'm not at all saying to move all practices inside. But it would be great for those inclement weather days as well as multiple other sports organizations to use.

I don't trust it, here in the lightning capital of the world - without solid walls and other construction grounding, so I'll tell you what: I'll leave and you stay. ;)

Standing up to a real hurricane in another consideration, a la the Dallas Cowboys collapse in a sudden storm. Not sure if the Dolphins facility has had a real significant windstorm survival test yet...could be wrong.

Actually it does matter where you practice, and practicing outside is an advantage because games are played outside. It's called training specificity, well known in sports medicine.

Have you seen the indoor practice facilities lately? Fsuck, Oklahoma, Virginia (pic attached)...these are far from a glorified tent. I live in an area where severe windstorms (Tornadoes) are the norm. So far, OU's has stood. Of course if it got hit directly, there isn't much that will remain standing. If you were inside of these structures when it got struck by lightning, you would still be safe I'm sure.

I know Fsucks hasn't been built yet but the have all the money for it...they are expensive as **** too. I think they are expecting to pay around $15 mil. I'm not saying UM needs an indoor facility. What I did say was it would be good for inclement weather and when lightning is nearby.

Yikes - compare the Virginia facility (a real building) to the Dolphins (a glorified tent):

"That will give us an incredible surface to practice on," coach Al Golden said. "We’ve made tremendous progress providing our student-athletes nutritional items they need to achieve peak performance, so I think there’s a variety of things Blake has already put in place to allow us to move forward as a program, the least of which is the incredible leadership he’s shown through the whole NCAA ordeal. He’s doing everything that we could want and we’re going into 2013 with all the things we need to be successful."

I asked James about the potential for an indoor practice facility. There are no concrete plans, but it is something he has thought about. There would be significant hurdles toward getting that done, specifically the difficulty in securing building permits in Coral Gables.

"It’s a reality of this environment that that’s something you have for your football program," James said. "Is it in our thoughts? Yeah that’s definitely in our thoughts. There’s a number of things that we have to be thinking about in terms of how do we better our situation for our program? Those are things we’ll continue to roll out over the next few years. There’s all sorts of different things you can look at your program and assess. Some of them we’ll do sooner rather than later, but to answer your question, yes it's definitely in our thoughts."

Whether that becomes a reality or not, James says Miami cannot stop improving its facilities with the completion of the Schwartz Center.

"As I’ve said to our fan base and our alumni base, that’s not the end," he said. "That’s just a step. We’re going to have to take another step and continue to do things. It doesn’t stop because it doesn’t stop anywhere. There isn’t a program in the country, if you went around and surveyed everyone and asked, 'Are you going to do anything for the next five years or are you guys good for five years?' Everyone is going to have something. If you’re not moving forward, everyone’s passing you.

"One of the things we need to make sure, or I need to make sure, we do as a program is continue to move forward. We can’t be in neutral. We will be able to move forward once this NCAA situation is behind us. But at the same time there’s investments we have to continue to make in the program to help us get to a level I believe we can get to, that I know Al believes we can get to, that our fan base wants to see us in."

Our AD James ^^
is a smart man

Don't see how anybody could be complaining about the possibility of building something like this. If permits are the biggest problem that Blake foreshadows then all you negative Nancy's can STFU. Maybe take the place of one of the intramural mine fields the camps have been held on.

Would there be space next to the tennis stadium - where the old ROTC building used to stand?

It's not 1987, so stop with the "we won 5 titles without it" macho crap. This isn't Rocky IV. If everyone else is shooting up, we can't win by pulling a handcart in Siberia.
