Just some thoughts..

I'm very sorry for your loss.

It would appear we're taking the "Speak softly and carry a big stick" approach.

Sorry for your loss. If the team can adapt the same competitive mindset that MJ has, they will be more than fine.

Still the best to ever do it...

Sorry for your loss bro. Great post! I've coached kids softball and soccer and I've also coached military intramural teams in football, softball, and basketball. I've always told my players to shut their mouths and prove it on the field/court. Running your mouth does nothing but feed motivation to the other team. Act and play like a professional and everything else will work out.

Well having lost someone somewhat close to me today, I figured i'd write some gibberish..

Have you seen how quiet this team has been compared to richt? Have you see how loud the gators have been? I read michael jordan's book "driven from within" a few weeks back and learned quite a few things from it.

Michael talked about his time as he first entered the league with the bulls, and how there were expectations of him. But these expectations had yet to be proven, he was at that moment just a bench player behind a quantified and proven starting 5. He talked about how to him there was no pressure to perform because of this, those expectations were everyone elses and not his whom he chose to ignore. To him it was "i'm gonna go out there and play my game and let the chips fall where they may."

Michael always put himself in this situation in every opportunity that I can remember, in interviews specifically. He would always say things like "yes he's good, I look forward to the challenge" right before he dropped 69 points 18 rebounds 6 assists (could've had 10) 4 blocks and 2 steals on Craig elo after the cleveland newspaper called elo a good defender and he was asked about it.

What is this situation? The position of the underdog, because as the underdog you don't have to deal with pressure it's all on the other guy. What has Manny said recently about florida's coaching staff? From what another person told me which I assume to be true, he had high praise for like 5 or 6 guys that he put on the air waves saying how good they were.

He's done this same thing with our players, letting uf flop their mouths off... so tell me, what's gonna happen if jeff thomas houses one on the kickoff? It's like if you ever played a game of 1on1 basketball and were running your mouth before the game. As soon as you're down 3 or 4 to 0 in a race to 7 or w/e you begin to feel that pressure. Pressure that didn't even come from the other guy, it came from just you and nothing but you. Now the guy can put even more pressure on you, because even if you lose it's not like it was a quiet "see who's better" and have a good hand shake later. You were running your mouth, he can let everyone know after this game what happened and it can haunt you...

Gentlemen I can't state this enough, as long as these men just do their assignments the chips are gonna fall where they may...

Godspeed

Be Barry Sanders. Excellent role model in that regard.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. Great perspective in your post and I hope Saturday will give you and yours some welcomed respite.
