Just got back from the game

Yeah Baker seems over his head or way overthinking what to call defensively. We have a very young secondary, they need time to gel and play together. Doesn’t help when AC5 gets tossed for targeting. We used to be able to hang out hat on the defense to at least bail us out. They did much better quarters 2 and 3 but that 4th and 17yd play was the worst. If you’re going to call a blitz don’t send the furthest dude to try and get to the QB. ST’s have been a nightmare as well, Patke should be shaking in his boots he makes it to the end of the season. It’s obvious that this lack of respect for special teams keeps biting us in the **** and needs to be changed ASAP. While I hold out hope we can get a W against BC and CMU I’m not all that confident and this is after the Chippewas were slaughtered this past weekend.

I think at this point unless Enos and Baker figure crap out and quickly, the best we can hope for is 8-4, and a mid tier bowl game. That’s it; this is all that TNM leaves us with...0-2 and looking miserable. Yes, we are a handful of plays from being 2-0, but the football gods don’t reward **** poor play.

Uncanny how well Vegas rates us... lesson for all sunshine pumpers.

People talking about what Clemson would do to us when fücking Maryland would drop a 50 burger on us.

Clemson would be a trackmeet for the ages, the thought of our DBs trying to cover their WRs has me in the fetal position over here.
Dear CiS- Look at Maryland and tell me
You are just hating on your own team. Jarren Williams was actually playing the QB position. Making reads finding his target and delivering the ball with precision under duress.

Howell sat in 3 formations all game, and was ask to either throw a slant or fade or give to the running back. Outside of his 4th and 17 throw his drop back game was an utter disaster.

But I get it he’s 2-0 as a starter and Jarren is 0-2 so the narrative is “he’s better”.
yeah I’m hating on this team too then. Howell was placed in position to make winning plays and did so.

Jarren has arm talent but our offense is geared to a theoretical team not the collection of ******** we have. Seven step drops with turnstyle tackles don’t work.

I will say the O line looked bitter against inferior DL. But we still can’t find the deep ball and the underneath game has to open up those shots or safeties will cheat on you.

We have massive problems and they don’t look to be improving. All the talk of our talent advantage has been fake news.

UNC and Maryland are showing how coaches can install and teach systems that win to inferior talent. We should be asking why that isn’t happening here.

Baker called the same defenses manny called. Problem is manny didn’t get any good CBs for 4 years and the safeties are green.

I don’t want to play Clemson. Lawrence and Co. will put up 80 on this d. They can’t tackle for **** so their rbs will run for 200 plus each.

Yes, but if we play the Irish in the **** Bowl up in Jacksonville and LOSE to the Domers, is that a firing offense for Manny?

That blitz we ran was the worst I’ve ever seen and exactly the fear with baker overtaking Diaz. Same issue plagued him early and he eliminated that call.
We somehow blitzed from the next town over and also looked like we tried to contain him and keep the prettiest pocket possible all at once.

They ran for 179 yards. Jarren threw for 300 with 76% completion percentage. After the 1st quarter they were no where near the issue today.
His stats are good, but we are throwing the ball a lot less down field than last year. Fewer big plays. The offense is designed for a high completion rate. Completing 3-5 more short passes per game moves you from a 50% passer to a 65% passer.

Jarren is accurate. He will always have a high completion rate in this offense. To be fare, with all the deep routes in Richt's offense, Jarren would have struggled last year as well. With all the QB pressures waiting for routes to develop, his completion percentage would not be what it is this year.

Jarren is the right guy for the Enos offense. The offense should continue to improve. The team has to start playing 4 quarters of winning Miami Hurricanes football.

I think Jarren will get the deep throws right in a couple of weeks... he is still a second or two behind in his reads...
as he gets comfortable, the game will slow down for him...

He has the highest upside on this team full of pot holes...

ST... i don't know how we fix that... our coaches are clueless.. if we manage not to lose through ST, that is the best we can hope for.

So in many ways we can hope that as the offense gets better, the margin of need for ST to excel might not be as crucial.

Howell was solid but can we stop the nonsense like he is the next coming. Our Defense did him serious favors. In fact, USC played him better than we did. Stop. Howell was nothing special that night.

The offense is improving. The defense took a step back and was very disappointing except for the 2nd and part of the 3rd qtr. Special teams needs to improve dramatically. However, we should not be in close games relying on FGs to win against mediocre teams, but the reality is that's who we are right now. The Florida game gave us hope. The UNC game showed us what we are.

I want you to be right about 9-10 wins in regular season OP, but at this point we need to see 1 win and it needs to happen soon.
Don’t you care about playing good or bad football? We ain’t going to the playoffs, so whether we win 6 or 9 doesn’t really matter. Our game play is more indicative of the direction of this team. If we made a few more field goals and where 2-0 right now, we’d still be just as awful but lying to ourselves.

This reminds me of 2 years ago when Rosier was showing toughness we hadn't seen with Kaaya and we were winning close games off a couple prayers. That was the luckiest double digit team we've had but we were all lying to ourselves about how much 'progress' we were making under Richt in year 2.

At this point, we are what our record says we are.... can we accelerate our improvement over the season??

Absolutely.... that's where Manny and his band of merry men will have to back their talk...

I am probably the most positive one on the board given my first post in this thread and even I accept that right now:

1) Our special teams are a disaster (outside of that one fake against UF)
2) Our DC has so far been a downgrade
3) Most of our staff is really green (the same issue under Richt)
4) Our overall depth is at near probation levels with already being 10 guys down.

But our offense/Jarren/basic O-line improvements/even some basic wr improvements (guys I thought were JAGS like Harley, etc.,) give me some hope as well as our trashy schedule.

I’m willing to bet Howell will not be great. This is his another average QB who will add I beat Miami to his resume. While he fans out and dosent even get drafted.
Disagree. While it's only one game, Howell threw a half dozen absolute dimes with pressure in his face. That kid looks legit.

Depressed and it was a weird game on all fronts.

That said:

-That 4th and 17 felt like death. In our section we all thought it was over before that completion. How could they have been so conservative on defense? They should have put more pressure on Howell and forced a quicker throw.

-Special teams, not much more to add, but wow. I thought the offensive playcalling in the last drive was great until we started to go for too many homerun plays. Given where we were, we should have tried 1-2 short passes or 1 more run and 1 short pass up the middle to give Baxa a better angle. Kind of stupid though Baxa should have hit it (as well as the others).

-Along the same lines the play calling was a disaster the first quarter and borderline great in quarters 2-4. The offensive line played much better and Jarren is going to be great. I can't believe anyone would bash this kid. The future is bright with him and on offense. In the midst of my depression I actually realized we are closer to having a very good offense than I ever would have thought before. I agree about a few less long developing play action plays, but for the most part in quarters 2-4 Enos did a great job. Oh yeah, just when I thought Mallory redeemed himself with the corner TD he blows the conversion. Not sure what his issue is.

-I love how hard Camron Harris runs

-Mike Harley has improved a lot as a wr. He went from nothing to potentially being better than solid by his senior year.

-My one complaint is we have no deep ball game. Nothing. The disparity between UNC's offense and ours in that regard was staggering (they should have had another long td but the guy fell down).

-Secondary is still way too green and they are going to have to take their lumps this year. Too much inexperience despite the on-paper accolades they have. Carter is also an idiot.

-I thought the officials missed some UNC holds and they blew Jarren's 4th down spot. He got that 1st down. They also missed a horse collar near the end.

-Linebacker play/development continues to underwhelm. Shaq, Pinckney, etc., have so far peaked two years ago. They were almost non-existent in the run game.

-I still think we win 9,10 regular season games and play Clemson. This team is talented, but still green and Manny is still green as a HC but you can see pieces here and there.

-Howell is going to be great unfortunately, and Mack Brown hired a great staff. The end.

I agree with 100% of what you say. From coaching to players, I feel this team has the most potential of any team we've had for quite some time. We're green across the board.. but I see the foundation of something great. We're a few plays from being 0-2 and we have an OC and QB that have good chemistry. This offense is going to be elite with just a few more games of experience. Remember, this is an entirely new offense for everyone! We have a good running game, good playcalling, and a deadly accurate QB.

Painful 0-2 but our schedule is favorable the rest of the way. We'll have VTech at home coming off a two game win-streak. If we beat VTech at home the rest of the way should be ours. But I absolutely don't want to win the coastal. We do not want to face Clemson this year

You know how many middle of the pack ACC teams we’ve played the last 10 years where we’ve made their Qb look like Peyton Manning? And then while their career goes on they end up being just a regular ACC QB who does nothing?

Our defense is predicated on high end safety play.

We do not have high end safety play currently.

Carter is not athletic enough and Hall is athletic enough but too inexperienced and the game is moving to fast for him.

We've given up more long passes this season in two games than all of last year.

Very true. I'll never forget the first wisconsin kid or the uva guy who went like 19 of 19 in the 1st half. Neither were any good, but we made both look like Joe Montana.
