I didn’t know that was him behind that, but whoever it was, you just know that that pipe wouldn’t be around today. It doesn’t really matter at this point who it was.

No major university is going to have a mascot that has anything related to smoking, even as benign as that pipe is with Sebastian. And I’m the first guy that’ll buy anything with an old time Sebastian with a pipe in his mouth.

I love that original mascot. And while I don’t think it makes a bit of difference - nobody’s going to smoke because of a pipe in Sebastian‘s mouth - I also understand that today’s super woke environment doesn’t allow for that kind of thing.

I am as anti-smoking as anybody, I’ve seen firsthand the effects, but honestly altering a cartoon character with a pipe in his mouth is just virtue signaling in my opinion. Spend some time in a VA hospital, and you’ll get educated very quickly when you see somebody so addicted they are smoking through a hole in their throat.

I’m glad we lead in efforts to educate people about the effects of smoking and in trying to do everything we can to prevent that from happening, but there are more concrete efforts than this. Again I understand why it was done, I just don’t think it has a meaningful impact - but I understand why it’s done.
